India has told Canada that it must repatriate 41 diplomats by October 10, according to The Financial Times newspaper.

Ties between India and Canada have become strained over Canadian suspicion that Indian government agents had a role in the June murder in British Columbia of a Sikh separatist leader and Canadian citizen, Hardeep Singh Nijjar, who India had labelled a “terrorist” because of his advocacy for Khalistan, an independent Sikh state.

India has dismissed the murder allegation as absurd.

The Financial Times, quoting people familiar with the Indian demand, reported on Tuesday that India had threatened to revoke the diplomatic immunity of those diplomats told to leave if they remained after October 10.

I don’t feel Canada is wrong here. You can’t just murder one of our own citizens on our own soil. If India wants to prosecute or use the legal system that’s fine.

That being said, I also feel like Canada accepts a lot of immigration from India. We take tons of Indian students and Canadians don’t necessarily go to India for schooling. I’m wondering how long this will last because I don’t feel Canada needs India as much as India needs Canada. I could be wrong, just a layman’s assessment.

      No one “needs” India…

Their plan is to become the world’s new sweatshop instead of China. And shipping all that junk overseas costs a lot of money and pollution while taking jobs away from the countries that buy it.

Maybe if they’d already replaced China that would be a short term issue, but they haven’t so it’s not.

They’re of no use from the other side of trade, there’s not many wealthy enough to buy goods from Asia or the West.

India could go completely isolationist and the only ones it would really affect are people who live in India.

I’m hoping the West has learned that maybe exporting all of our production capabilities to a foreign country isn’t actually a good idea.

Those schools will miss the international student tuition fees.

But I don’t care about that. I just feel bad for the families this will affect and I want the Sikhs who call Canada home to feel safe here.

Can’t kill citizens on their own soil? You know their are government organizations who’s job that is specifically?

I don’t understand this false equivalency.

Yeah militaries around the world have done terrible stuff and they shouldn’t.

It doesn’t make what India allegedly did OK during peace time and to a Canadian civilian.

        I don’t think you understand…

India killed a Canadian citizen in Canada…

Even then tho, your comment doesn’t make a lot of sense

If India is going full ethnofascist, all of the Five Eyes countries should start limiting & invalidating visas for India’s citizens.

India sees itself as the next “World Super Power” because they’ll be the most populated and became manufacturing center of the world. So they are taking steps to secure that flawed idea. Humanity has learned nothing from the past. If our leaders don’t wake up, it’ll be our own hands that destroy our civilization.
