You are making an assumption that the person can’t provide any way to identify himself as the owner. The story as written states they didn’t care about anything other than the current password.

I worked with a guy that would tell people that coax needed to be “released to ground” occasionally, by unhooking the cable and putting your thumb over the end. That’s how he made sure people were disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the back of the box. Personally, I couldn’t disagree with your general statement more, as I have had the exact opposite experience in that paying more for good gaming peripherals from trustworthy brands is worth every penny - BUT to be fair, I am only comparing the gaming peripherals to other gaming peripherals. As an example, I will never buy a Razor product as every single one I’ve had has been cheap trash that dies in 3-6 months. I learned to pay the money for Logitech. I’ve been using one of their gaming mice for about 3 or 4 years now and it is just now starting to show some signs of age with wheel clicks occasionally not registering, and all like 15 other buttons still work as expected just fine. I think the big problem is that there are a lot of crappy “gaming” brands that jack the price way up for cheap crap just because they slapped some LEDs on it and give it an edgy name. They throw a ton of money at marketing and advertising, and the price point is high, so the general population start to think of them as a high-end premium brand when they are (probably) just taking a $7 walmart mouse and slapping a new outer shell on it with some cheap RGB (so they can convince you to install their bloatware while they are at it).

No hate intended, as these are all just our personal opinions and there is no “right” or “wrong” answer. I personally cringe at the idea of going back to a cheap “$7 walmart mouse”, but if it works for someone else I’m not trying to tell them they are wrong. :P

They made it so people can build structures that periodically ping the whole system and destealth your ship. Primarily aimed at stealth campers but it can occasionally catch you out if your roaming around being nosy.

I’ve printed small plastic parts to fix the flush mechanism of a toilet for pennies. I’ve printed little utility items like hangers for parts to paint. Holders for dnd minis to make painting them easier. Storage boxes to organize small parts for various other hobbies. Giant realistic cock and balls turned into a trophy. Replacement parts for board games that have been lost or broken over the years. Custom dice towers and dice boxes for dnd dice sets. Etc.

The ability to see a need, take some measurements, and spend a few minutes in a cad software to have a replacement part that you otherwise can’t find (or can’t find by itself) is honestly amazing.

As far as I notice they aren’t “killing the game” but I’ve been much happier since I gave up the idea of doing big null sec corpo blob wars and I assume those are the people that might have valid complaints.

I love the small gang cheap ship roams. Nothing like a fleet of mining frigates loaded for bear jumping haulers and randos in null sec. You get to be your own bait. I have been a little sad about the stealth nerfs, I miss just roaming in a stealth ship solo.

Being “higher than ad revenue” on YouTube is a stupidly low bar. Ad revenue for videos has been plummeting like a rock for years. That’s why basically every big channel now either has merch, patron, or paid sponsorships / ads recorded by the creator as part of the video completely unrelated to YouTube.

I fully believe that if I left toilet lids open she’d have peed in the toilet that day.

I started on kbin because it’s an easy to remember name/address and I liked the ui, but not great on mobile so I had to join another when I downloaded jerboa. Chose lemmy.zip because I too am tech focused and the name is also easy to remember. I am also on beehaw because the community seemed cool and again its easy to remember url, but didn’t even realize it was part of the same system when I joined, lol.

That’s making an assumption that a brand new Linux user knows they are running the command with superuser privileges.

Half the time you websearch a problem you are having in Linux you will find someone telling you to fix it by running a command that starts with sudo without explaining what any part of the command does. New people probably regularly run those commands without finding out what it does and it probably works (or at least does no harm) a good portion of the time because most people aren’t dicks. So then you’ve got new people trusting that form of advice.

It’s hard to blame them, they are new to the system and very few experienced users are going out of their way to explain the basics to new users.

I think Thanos had the right motives and goal (in the movies - I havnt read any comics) but his plan to get there wasn’t great. Even assuming removing half of the consuming population is the best solution available (if you can completely alter all of reality why not just make more or infinite resources?), his plan to just randomly select half the population, delete them, and leave them in their loved ones memories is overtly torturous and malicious to everyone in society. He could have taken more care in the selection process instead of just taking at random, or he could have altered people’s memories so they didn’t feel the loss.
