It’s because that’s the narrative the Moscow puts out. And tankies eat it up, and regurgitate it verbatim without a second thought.

pushing Nato membership for Ukraine has been a key driver of this conflict and has increased the threat of nuclear war
Nice to see the star reposting .ml/lemmygrad rhetoric. I’m amazed the interviewees didn’t claim that the invasion was inevitable and actually fine because yhere are neo Nazis in Ukraine.
“I’ve spoken to a lot of families who have had homes there for generations and they’re saying the same thing - how can we carry on with this?” said Mr Williams.
I can’t feel too bad for people who have been responsible for pricing locals (who the homeowners rely on for their lovely holidays) out of places to live.
This is a fantastic move, and if it means that more people who live and work there can buy property so much the better.
The majority of the wealth in creative industries isn’t in the hands of the creative workers anyway - it’s not a big change in that respect.
The ‘creative’ employers will just pivot to churning out content and using underpaid staff to make them workable.
There’s new geothermal being implemented in the southwest too for what it’s worth - so it’s not like it’s not happening in the UK, it’s just going to be at the extreme south and north.
It absolutely is. Nuclear waste is bad, but it’s not nearly as bad as millions of tonnes of carbon.
The main issues people have that I’ve seen are:
(And the ever present 3rd option: I don’t want it near my house, and I don’t want pylons on my land)
“I’m being persecuted which proves I’m right”
A common sentiment in Christian circles.
The efficiency of heat pumps is dependent on the ability of the home to retain that heat. In the UK that’s a huge issue.
But my point was really more that to get to that point (and to install heat pumps) would be ruinously expensive.
London =/= The South
There’s much greater density of lines north of Birmingham than the rest of England with the exception of London. Especially the Liverpool-Manchester-Leeds corridor.
The South West, Wales (ex. Cardiff and the Valleys) and East Anglia are all pretty beret of train lines, in much the same way that the country north of York is.
The tag thing was a (quelle surprise) a contractor fuck up. Allegedly they didn’t have a wrist tag small enough but the protesters wrists weren’t outside the sizing specs of the shackle.
It reeks of malicious incompetence (at best).
You’d think that there were bigger crims to deal with, but never mind; we’ll just hammer environmental protestors instead of actual criminals.
It’s more likely that if there were some enforcement (spoilers: there won’t be) then it would probably be sanctions or something which would just fuck everyone over except the people who actually complicit in the criminal acts in the first place.
My house was built in 1800. The level of work needed to make it ready for a heat pump would ruin me financially, even if a heat pump were a suitable alternative to my combi boiler.
An electric combi would be a much more straightforward alternative - but I never hear anyone suggesting them when we discuss moving away from gas in UK homes?
They do in Scarborough, I’d wager it’s similar in Hull also.
That’s just what the ringfenced funds can be used for if the local authority decides to implement it.
Personally I have zero issues with this - most places in tourist hot spots do this and it just gets bundled in with the cost of staying there when you book accommodation anyway.
It’s how a lot of “green” policies work. Totally bizarre logic.
My energy provider offers gas on green tarrifs by offsetting it with “carbon credits”.
Thanks for actually explaining your position - I’m annoyed it got nixed because I actually wanted to read it properly!
You didn’t know I was a moron, to be fair.
Turkey isn’t in Cuba /s
(But I see your point).
Come on mods - it’s fine for people to disagree/discuss/whatever.
Maybe I’m a moron and maybe this person is a tactless tankie.
I actually appreciated that there’s some actual fucking discussion here.
In this case they are analogous though, really.
