A side effect of so many streaming channels is that they are all feeling the pressure to keep up with the catalog depth of Netflix and Disney/Hulu. This results in lots of mediocre content being produced to create the illusion of lots of stuff to watch. But no one wants to watch it or hasn’t heard of it to build mind hype for it. All that content is wasted money to prop up a failing service that is bleeding every contender dry. There will be more like Paramount. Consolidation is coming.

Oh, no doubt she’s fantastic. Her Vampire Diaries essay is still my go-to for background viewing. Even now the China Beach ad gives me giggles.

It’s just strange to focus so much on how many millions she may make when in reality she’s got almost no merch and uses copyrighted material in her videos that probably prevent a lot of monetization. She doesn’t have millions because most YouTubers with her following have sponsors, ad reads, and patreon call outs. She doesn’t even say “like and subscribe” or say shit to generate comments. She goes against all advice on how to make a living from a channel and it works. So focusing on how much money she must have seems really antithetical to her channel.

But great to see she is getting mainstream attention! Hopefully her videos will affect change at Disney.

That picture is a great example of how to light a puppet. Overhead diffused lighting gives the hair an airiness that makes it feel like an aura around the puppet head. TPM is diffused side lighting like they are lighting a person, but it highlights the differences that make it not a person. Plus the puppet is ugly and only tangentially like Yoda.

COVID showed the propaganda is fairly effective. People trust the news even when the news is actually an opinion piece because there is trust the source supports a justifiable opinion.

That’s because it was never on the mind of the opinion writer. The author literally helped usher in the post-9/11 surveillance environment that sees massive paranoia and none of the surveillance used for solving crimes. They will watch all of us for dissent and discreetly punish those they seem “an other.”
