I worked with a rich ranch girl at a Restaurant once, she was 17 maybe just doing the summer serving with us, and I was playing music and taking requests and I asked her what she liked and she said “none of it I hate Music.” I said “what do you do in the car?” she said “listen to talk radio or podcasts” and this just… Baffled me. She was not good at her job but after she told me that I couldn’t help but feel a bit bad for her.

I fall asleep long before we ever take off usually by putting a podcast on the earbuds, wrapping a sweater stiff around my neck and focusing on the vibrations from the engine. Usually wake up around landing announcements. Never realized this was a blessing.

I think it just comes down to being a basic considerate human being. Shoot all the fireworks you like if you’re not at risk of bugging anyone. I live on the edge of town in a mostly commercial district so around the 4th I’ll fire off whatever but if I lived in a neighborhood I’d either leave town or not buy fireworks. Pretty easy stuff.
