People who don’t give a fuck about animals also don’t give a fuck about people? Shocking, I tell you, shocking.

Joe Rogan: Americans are getting stupider!
Also Joe Rogan: I’ll push propaganda that supports the party that continually cuts funds to education.
Shhhh, or they’ll ban that next.
This is why I’m not stingy with upvotes. They may just be imaginary internet points, but if I can make somebody’s day a little bit better by clicking a a button, why not?
I usually upvote everything in the comment chain above me and anyone who replies, unless it’s a particularly bad take.
If we want Lemmy to be an enjoyable place to have discussions, it’s good to spread some love, ya feel?
What in the ever living hell…
Doesn’t mean the situation is not a powder keg, doesn’t mean that if basically one exceptionally stupid command, conflicting with a far less stupid command from another authority, is acted on, it could escalate rapidly.
I get your cynicism, but hasn’t this kinda been the global situation since nuclear armament? And yet here we are nearly a century later. We may be pretty dumb as a species, but we’re surprisingly good at not intentionally setting off those powder kegs when were standing right next to them.
Yeah, I’m pretty left leaning, but these guys basically said “You Mitsubishi laborers work for a colonialist corporation, therefore you’re fair game.” That’s beyond fucked.
Are those labourers in some minute way culpable for the evils perpetrated by their employers? Sure, I could see an argument for that. After all, they freely chose (or at least as freely as one can choose in a society where labour is compelled for those with little money) to sell their labor. Is that commensurate with death? No way in hell.
The second you consider a plan involving injuring blue collar workers who are just trying to make ends meet, it’s time to rethink your philosophy.
I suppose in a purely symbolic way, maybe it’s not the best, but scale matters. Wasting one can of soup when you need 10 million is not really a big deal.
There seems to be a common thread in a lot of these new pathogens: they all seem to start in intensified animal agriculture operations. The absolute deplorable conditions we keep these animals in is a spawning ground for disease.
It’s a feature, not a bug…
OK, look, we tried refactoring, but everything broke. Just don’t touch it and it’ll be fine.
What, you thought a giraffe was some sort of animal, and not a type of neck? Didn’t you know that snakes, geese, and giraffes all evolved from the common neck: C. neckens?
The tree of life is a git repository. I’m personally partial to the giraffe release.
Likud minister formulates regulations to imprison citizens who ‘harm national morale’ Memorandum of Shin Bet law will enable Israel’s security agency to spy on journalists Number of journalists killed in Israel-Gaza war unparalleled, new report shows Merida decided in November that more than 30 journalists from the paper’s news department, who signed a statement describing Israel as an apartheid state committing genocide in Gaza, would be barred from covering the war for three months (until mid-February).
Am I the only one who thought I was having an aneurism reading that mess of a sentence?
Edit: Ohh, I looked at the archived article, those are supposed to be separate bullet points.
This is false.
Very strictly speaking, I kinda agree. Western legacy media is the mouthpiece of the ultra-wealthy, and supports continued economic colonialism of the Middle East. That currently happens to coincide with Israel’s interests, so functionally they’re hard to tell apart.
However, I think saying they’re actually Israel’s mouthpiece comes dangerously close to some of the legitimately antisemitic deep-state conspiracy theories.
Maybe this is just semantics, but I do think the distinction is somewhat important.
Maybe you need a refresher on what genocide is. Here’s an excerpt from the UN definition:
Article II of the Genocide Convention contains a narrow definition of the crime of genocide, which includes two main elements:
- A mental element: the “intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such”; and
- A physical element, which includes the following five acts, enumerated exhaustively:
- Killing members of the group
- Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group
- Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part
- Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group
- Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group
Israel simply intends to kill enough Palestinians to guarantee an ethnic majority in the region. Even if they don’t intended to eliminate every Palestinian, that still constitutes a genocide.
Did you forget the part where Israel has been propping up Hamas in attempt to legitimize the Palestinian genocide?
Don’t worry, our right-wing nutjobs are slowly chipping away at privatizing our health care system. Sooner or later we’ll probably reach parity. 🙄
Well, if it’s from a for profit corporation, anyways, that’s typically the case. Either that or they’re trying to onboard you for an upsell down the line.
Someone has to pay for it one way or another. It’s just a matter if you want to pay with money or your personal data being supplied to advertisers.
I didn’t even realize where we were until I read your comment.
