What is it an eggcorn of? Acorn? And what’s the origin?
Rephrased to it’s intended meaning, that would be:
ELI5 how come it seems now [that] the old [wives’] tale about Vietnamese people eating pets [is now being applied to] immigrants into the USA?
What’s the origin of the term eggcorn? A brief scan of the link didn’t answer this for me. Is eggcorn itself an eggcorn?
That’s what I was thinking… I’m over that amount already and I have one interview so far. Though to be fair I’m applying to co-ops which I guess might be more competitive?
Please don’t make this a thing in Canada please don’t make this a thing in Canada please don’t make this a thing in Canada please don’t
Thanks for taking the time to respond! Yeah that doesn’t sound good.
Genuine question, are they not making money, or are they not making more money than they did last year? I just tend to hear that companies aren’t making money when all they really mean is that profits aren’t growing, but they’re still making a big profit.
Crazy that you’re getting downvoted for this. I smoke occasionally, but used to smoke daily and had to quit cold turkey for over a year. I now (almost 3 years since I first stopped cold turkey) refuse to have any marijuana on me and only smoke on the occasion that I’m out with friends and it’s offered to me. That ends up being about one toke a month. Irritability and bad mood for chronic smokers when they haven’t smoked enough to get withdrawals is common enough (anecdotally from my own experience quitting and seeing others around me struggling with it as well).
Especially if someone has quit and finds the smell off-putting or doesn’t like to be around people who are either constantly baked or very irritable, this point of view is perfectly valid and adds to the conversation. Don’t downvote just because you personally disagree.
No problem, yeah it’s very unintuitive that it would work that way.
Absolutely. I’m an android user and prefer android over iOS. But customizability isn’t something everyone values.
I have a Samsung and I have amazing swipe gestures and great customizability for what I want each one to do. I have 12 total swipe gestures (up, in, down, long or short, from left or right side) that I can set to a whole slew of actions. It’s been really amazing! If you’re on a Samsung I recommend you check out the “One Hand Operations +” application (I believe it’s on the Galaxy store, not the play store) along with maybe a different launcher if you want more visual customization. It’s what really boosted my experience of this phone.
Which appeals to users who may accidentally change something or want something to be good and easy right out the gate. I wouldn’t recommend an android to someone very technically incompetent, and I prefer android to iOS any day
So far liftoff has been my favorite and I love the ability to have multiple accounts logged in at once and the ease of browsing from different instances. The UI is nice and clear and it’s my favorite from the ones I’ve tried. I still wanna try boost out!
Can I ask what phone you have? Is it a pixel? I used to have a pixel and switched to Samsung and miss the picture quality.
To be fair, I’ve heard people say the same thing about android. That the interface is infuriating to use. I think once one gets accustomed to one, the other is foreign enough to be annoying.
Any examples? I’d like to join Mastodon soon and if I can’t easily browse other instances that takes away a lot of the appeal for me.
Hey I see you’re commenting from lemmy.world, since yesterday I’ve had troubles opening links, viewing posts and images, and posting comments. Are you having the same issues? I wasn’t even able to open this post on my lemmy.world account
It could be fine in certain contexts - for example medical contexts - but I think an important distinction that made it stand out in your comment was that you used female for women but didn’t use the equivalent “male” for men 😊
