I take issue with the way the old mirror test is administered by seeing if they react to a mark on their body only visible in a mirror. It doesn’t account for the fact that the animal might… just not give a shit if it’s marked. Dogs apparently fail the mirror test, but mine and plenty of other dogs will turn and look at you if they spot you in a mirror and you wave or do something to get their attention, so clearly dogs understand the concept of reflections enough to know what they’re looking at.

You mean like an MMO where different maps are arranged in an infinite hexagonal pattern that’s randomly/procedurally generated based on different biomes, that also keeps track of how many players have entered/completed each hex and begins scaling down the difficulty in said hex and evolving it into a more peaceful zone, that way the higher traffic areas eventually form safe zones/towns for low level characters while low traffic areas encourage high level characters to visit and explore, with the highest level characters able to survive unexplored areas and expand the map for all players, all while having developer tools to specifically add unique dungeons/events/items directly to tiles so that the game doesnt feel a mile wide and an inch deep but instead as if the whole world map is alive and constantly changing?

They don’t live long enough, sadly. If they did, they could easily be the dominant species. Many octopus species have been shown to have the intelligence of a 7 year old. Besides the fact that it’s a form of intelligence that evolved completely separate from ours (our last common ancestors didn’t have a brain), octopi only live about 3-4 years. Think about that for a moment.

If everyone was stuck outside in the cold, and one guy wouldn’t stop talking about how cold it is, how long before others would start to be annoyed? Yes, it’s cold out. Yes, we’re cold too. Yes, mutually complaining about the cold can be a bonding experience, especially when we can all see another group safely enjoying their warm shelter they refuse to share. But when every conversation or discussion for months on end is interrupted by the guy saying it’s cold and offering zero solutions, at some point people are going to tell him to shut up.

The depression and other emotional issues is what got me. It’s supposed to be Star Fleet, yet every character is like 12 flavors of drama that should be seen as unprofessional. I enjoy diversity, however Discovery constantly used it in a way where the characters are either struggling with their identity or have practically made it their entire personality, which is stupid because ST has made clear that in its future, no one gives a shit about that stuff because everyone is free to be who they are.

I mean, they even ran out of oppressed minorities and had to start making up their own like Saru’s struggle with being a prey species. Or the fucking ship having an identity crisis.

Pretty much every organ doctors have claimed is “useless” winds up being tied to the immune system. Other than the brain, it is the most complex and least understood system of the body. Not because we haven’t studied it, but because every time we do, we just keep learning more and more.
