Yup, just walk away… or answer ‘no’ since smart folks don’t always say ‘yes’
I lost some, I won some.

All I did was point out facts and perspectives you seem to have missed. I thought we were having a constructive conversation in good faith, and was giving you the benefit of the doubt. I’m sorry to see that wasn’t the case.
The reason it seems “muddled” to you is likely because bigotry itself is based in ignorance.
Many people just accept and absorb what they’ve heard or seen in cartoons and popular media while growing up, lumping different groups of people together based on oversimplifications and misrepresentations of who they are. The assumptions on which people base their Islamophobia are quite racist, conflating Arab identity (which people think they know by a person’s appearance based on racist stereotypes) with Islam. The point is to be able to identify the bigotry for what it is.
If you try to define a form bigotry by the actual reality it’s misrepresenting, you’ll miss the bigotry itself.
Islamophobia is a type of racism. Brown people who aren’t even muslim (like Sikhs) often get caught up in it, precisely because the ignorance that fuels it is based in racism.
So we argue that “Islamophobia is rooted in racism and is a type of racism that targets expressions of Muslimness or perceived Muslimness”
What is clear now is that the very weapons that Israeli forces have used to enforce a blockade of Gaza over the past 17 years are now being used against them. Israeli and American military explosives have enabled Hamas to shower Israel with rockets and, for the first time, penetrate Israeli towns from Gaza.
“Unexploded ordnance is a main source of explosives for Hamas,” said Michael Cardash, the former deputy head of the Israeli National Police Bomb Disposal Division and an Israeli police consultant. “They are cutting open bombs from Israel, artillery bombs from Israel, and a lot of them are being used, of course, and repurposed for their explosives and rockets.”

From an older piece with more context:
The Iranian narrative is that they kick-started all the missile production in Gaza and gave them the technical and knowledge base, but now the Palestinians are self-sufficient, said Fabian Hinz, an independent security analyst focusing on missiles in the Mideast.

(There’s also a NY Times article with a similar headline to the Yahoo! one, but it’s paywalled.)
From what I’ve heard in reporting, they build rockets from parts of unexploded Israeli bombs. Over the last 4 months, I have no doubt they’ve found a few duds and accumulated the material with which to hack these things together.
What is the point of your link? Can you not state what part of what I said that you disagree with? Regardless of what we might think of Iran now, it is a documented fact that the US & UK set the stage for, and then backed the coup against Mossaddegh to further the interests of their financial elites. My point was that the US is no paragon of democracy. If you want to disprove something about that, you should be more specific about what you believe was incorrect.
*small edit for clarity
Even when ethnic cleansing isn’t actively going on, it’s not a democratic state if any group of people native to the land are banned from voting, can’t travel freely, and have a separate justice system that applies only to them. Iran wouldn’t have been in the state it’s in if the US hadn’t staged a coup there because they didn’t like the leftist leader people democratically elected.
Yeah I saw that and I was like “What, again? Why now?” Then I saw the comments. 😅
Infinite diversity in infinite combinations.
(Also, DS9 was the best.)
If you would like to see peace happen, then for a start, reject ALL of Likud’s divisive and harmful lies and propaganda. You’re repeating it yourself with the woefully inaccurate and incredibly politically charged terms of exchanging “fighters” for “children” framing. Palestinians-- many of whom are literal children-- are just being rounded up wholesale, including in the West Bank where Hamas doesn’t exist. How can you call them “fighters” without charges, without evidence, without a trial… only on the word of the same IDF whose members have been proudly posting videos of their own war crimes? Wasn’t it supposed to be never again for anyone?
If you are a human being and not a bot, please get outside of your propaganda bubble and educate yourself. Israel’s “prisons” are today’s concentration camps, holding thousands of women and children without charges and evidence, not just “fighters.”
If Israel’s behaviour is not collective punishment (in contravention of international law), then answer why the IDF has even kept the dead bodies of their Palestinian hostages in numbered graves or refrigerators instead of returning them to their families. Answer why Israelis have been livid with Netanyahu’s administration. Even if they don’t fully see eye to eye with the rest of the world on this, even many Israelis understand the Netanyahu gov’t, settlers, and the IDF are the ones doing the most to put innocent Jewish people in the way of harm.
To add to this – Cory Doctorow, the very guy who coined the term “enshittification,” has written about this. (Been meaning to read some of his books to see his explanations on how to fight it but I’m still getting through another book right now so I’ve only seen vids and read a sample.)
Fair point, my choice of wording wasn’t precise. But comparing indigenous peoples would be even more complicated.
I only asked you to think twice about punching down, dude. Go ahead and block me if you think that’s “trolling.”
If I see someone saying harmful things (whether they realize it or not) about misunderstood people that don’t deserve to be made fun of, I’m going to comment (unless it’s obvious bait).
“Day-ruining,” seriously? Try comparing apples to apples.
Even as a joke, countries ruined by colonial interference shouldn’t be counted.
Dying on a hill forever sounds really painful. Ouch.
Useful constraints would focus discussion to keep questions/replies brief, relevant, and hopefully helpful, wouldn’t they? I just wonder how up and downvoting would work since that would go very differently from Lemmy.
