“stop crime” ads make people more afraid and make the police state worse
Can you explain this for me?
Man wouldn’t it suck if America was covered in asphalt and gridlock?
In general, I find that speed limits are more effective when they are accompanied with the actual infrastructure
This is a known phenomenon. The solutions you mention are part of whats called traffic calming and they are very effective.
You drive 100km down residential streets every day? Main roads will not have this speed limit.
At those speeds you might as well not even bother with a car.
That’s kind of the point. Cars are horribly inefficient at moving people, terrible for the environment, and turn cities into dangerous and awful places to be.
Lowering the speed limit saves lives, whether or not it feels slow should be irrelevant.

I got docked points on my test for going 30 in a residential zone. I didn’t fail and I know the tester is just doing their job but daaamn. Encouraging a 17 year old kid to go 50 down side streets with only enough space for a single car, interesting strategy.
17 is way too young to be driving in the first place, but that’s another conversation.

Lemmy learns exponential math.
Mostly joking, thanks for doing the math.
I can’t really remember Hilda but I remember liking it. I think these recommendations are a similar vibe. I also did not like Gravity Falls but should probably give it another try since I didn’t give it a fair shot.
Dara, Steven Universe, Bee and Puppycat would be my recommendations.** I’ve ranted about them below trying to describe them but honestly you should probably just ignore my rant and watch some episodes since they are all short.**
It’s been a while since I’ve watched Dara so I can remember deets but it’s a cute and chill show.
Steven Universe is possibly my favourite show, 12 min episodes so really easy to consume. It’s dorky (especially at first) and takes a while to get going. But when it does it has a lot going for it. Action, adventure, humour, all with an upbeat and warm tone. It tackles some pretty deep topics but can be a little on the nose sometimes. The character arcs are satisfying and the whole plot feels very intentional and comes to a close satisfyingly. Who am I kidding it’s definitely my favourite show. If you’ve seen ATLA I think they are quite similar in plot and episode structure, but SU has more adult themes, better humour & character arcs, and a better plot overall. (IMO, don’t yell at me ATLA fans).
Bee and Puppycat has two runs, a YouTube one then a sort of remake on Netflix, it’s confusing and idk which one to recommend, I like the both though. So far it seems quite similar to SU except much less structured. It’s very cutesy and fun but I feel like there’s some ADHD vibes in terms of writing and the main character (I don’t mean this in an entirely bad way, I have ADHD). It just feels a bit scatterbrained at times. That being said I really like it and I’m hoping the creator gets more seasons approved.
Don’t use metal on your pans maybe?
There it is. Thanks for sharing.
That got me thinking about when we’ll hear the first case of AI generated security camera footage used to frame someone. Which leads me to wonder when it will be standard procedure for cameras to digitally sign their footage.
Yeah I’m not trying to say they are facing similar challenges just that the rationalization for using the term seems the same.
I still think we need another phrase. It’s the same logic that people (myself included) used to defend using gay as a slur.
Ahhhh the ol’ Canadian loop hole.
WHAT
Interesting. My local transit has ads listing a number to text for help. As far as I know the number goes straight to the transit police force and not the cops and I always thought it was a good thing to reassure people (especially women traveling at night) that they can text the number if they feel unsafe and someone will be there to help them.
Would you consider this the same/a bad thing?
FYI I am pretty anti-police.
