Firstly, I upvoted the post because I’d like to see more discussion in this community rather than mere news.

As for your idea about spoiling your ballot. I’m not sure I understand the point of spoiling if you yourself would admit that you’d happily vote Green. Vote Green (if possible).

A sudden uptick in votes for other parties might do more to get the bigger parties to take notice then drawing a dick on your ballot paper.

I’m a Labour member and I don’t want to see them get this sort of majority. There needs to be some sort of functioning opposition to keep them honest and to serve as a threat that the good times won’t last forever.

I’ve only seen one or two WSL games on TV but I’m always happy to see more sport content on Lemmy so good luck.

You think it’s perfectly fine behaviour if the standing government goes out of it’s way to call an election at a time that is widely regarded to be a bad time for a large portion of the electorate to get to the polls?

People should absolutely register to vote. However the government should be called out for what is essentially just an attempt to make life difficult for a group of people who pretty significantly don’t tend to vote for them.

One of the reasons BoJo called for an election on the 19th December for sure. Lots of students are at home rather than at university and it can be a real pain in the arse to move that stuff around at short notice.

Maybe they should get out of the way and let the British people declare a motion of no confidence in Rishi Sunak?

Hell, the committee set up to take these guys to task even warned the government that P&O had decided it was worth the legal and financial hit that they’d take because it was still cheaper than going through the union.

They saw what the law said and decided it didn’t scare them. It was at that point that the law became meaningless and was In need of a change .

He’s terrified of Braverman right? I’m not sure why. He’s not winning this election, and I can’t imagine he’s going to hang around as the leader of the opposition.

I think he’s played his hand very poorly…but I’m not sure it’s going to make all that much difference come election time. When it comes to general elections, I’m not sure foreign policy carries that much weight.

Triple lock is obviously an issue, but it’d be electoral suicide to say you were going to mess with it.

Don’t worry, I’ve got absolute faith that the Labour party will find a way to tear itself apart, much in the same way the May regime did during Brexit negotiations.

There’s a great book to be written about how the Tories went from an unassailable election win in 2019 to…whatever this mess is in 2024. It’d be hilarious if it wasn’t so damn damaging to the country.

I’m a Labour member and I’m cynical of Labour. Still gonna vote for them though, because as much as I think we need a fundamental change to our democratic system, it’s been 14 years of absolute shit for the majority of us, and as someone with young kids, who’s in receipt of benefits…who also rents and has a long-term health condition, I can’t chance having another 14 years of Tory rule.

Part me me actually wonders if It wouldn’t be better for the country to have a Labour/Lib/SNP coalition. I don’t trust Starmer, and I think our system basically makes it impossible to ditch FPTP when one of the two main parties are only ever a scandal away from earning a majority.
