  • Yes, actually at my job a co-worker just found exactly such a bug yesterday: Debug build zeroed out the variable and the release build didn’t. So the bug only occurred in the release build, but could not be reproduced on the debug build where the developers work on. So in the end he found it because of the different compiler flags used for debug vs release builds at our work place.

  • And even “white” is a very vague term. My GF from Latin America is blonde and if it weren’t for her brown eyes, she could easily pass as a local in Europe. In fact she does pass as a local often enough. Plenty of people in Latin America are perfectly “white”, so immigrants from Latin American countries to the US can assimilate within a generation, easily. I know plenty of “white” Americans speaking perfectly fine American English, but with a last name like Garcia. So yeah, it’s ridiculous to die on the hill of “non-white” immigration from the south.

In fact, all of US wealth and power is built upon (involuntary/undocumented) immigration in different aspects, but pretty much every way. There’s a reason why your electronics are cheap and your food is so affordable.

  • But “wasting” government resources on immigrants (those few that don’t work and as such don’t enrich the country they immigrate to) would only impact the economy if the health of the economy is reliant on government help. Just because the government is spending more, doesn’t mean the economy is worse… (often time it’s actually better off with government spending). Unless we see massive tax increases in such countries that will impact wealth generation and labor costs etc. I cannot see any negative impact on economic health.

Quite the opposite. Immigration usually helps fill in gaps in “economic planning” and the extra labor helps the economy. And increased government spending for the poorer groups of the population usually boosts the economy a lot more than tax cuts. So any negative economic impact of immigration has to overcome these positive ones.

That said, there are certainly other, non-economic reasons against immigration, but that wasn’t the point.

The bigger question is why alcohol is not illegal. Ruins lives and families all over the globe. It is addictive, although not as much as opioids, and drunk people cannot drive and can also otherwise not be trusted. Some tend to violent outbursts etc.

The only answer is: It’s easy to make, it’s been tradition and banning/limiting it has been tried before. And that’s also the reason why tobacco is still legal and nicotine isn’t illegal.
