C is simple in the same way that a circular saw with no safety features is simple. I like having fingers better.

Some men just want to watch the world burn
C++, but a very ugly and oldschool dialect of it.
It’s funny, the thing that bugs me the most in this is the over-expressivism of Threepio’s movements. He bulges and wobbles exactly like Anthony Daniels’ character doesn’t. Giving him more restrained motions would likely be easier animation.
Good to see that Favreau is directing, not Filoni.
I like Filoni’s world-building - imho he “gets” the Star Wars universe in a way that other writers don’t… but I absolutely cannot stand his writing and directing. I remember watching his episode of Mando, the one where Ashoka fights in a Japanese-esque village, and the dialog was so awful I immediately googled to see who was making that awful ep and sure-enough it was him. I want him commanding the ship but not steering it.
He’s got a good sense of vision and a nice stable of continuous characters to carry forwards the franchise, but I can’t stand any of the shows he makes. Somehow they manage to be both tedious with infodumps of backstory while at the same time they make it feel like you’re missing most of the background because you didn’t watch a zillion episodes of his TV shows.
And while his capturing of the Star Wars “feel” is better than most, it’s still very prequel-y compared to others.
With him at the helm, even with good directors like Favreau involved, it will likely feel like the recent MCU films - okay-ish movies bogged down with too much CGI and too much continuity from previous entries that weren’t good-enough to deserve a follow-up.
Ugh. The way that generally centre-right economic policy wonks are celebrating Milei’s election is grotesque.
I get that dollarization would probably be good for Argentina.
Even as a leftist, I’m open to the possibility that an anti-Peronist economic policy could save the country - I doubt they could survive another Peronist.
But Milei is the worst kind of MAGA wingnut. He’s a talk-radio shock jock. It’s like if they elected Tucker Carlson or Don Cherry into the casa rosada.
His one possibly-good policy idea doesn’t overshadow that.
Elect normal-ass people instead of batcrap loonies like milei or the peronists.
Stockholm syndrome.
JS is the one that’s built into the browser. If JS wasn’t built into the browser, it would go onto the trashbin of bad old languages that only survived because of their platform like VBA and ActionScript and .bat batch scripting. You can’t compare JS to any other language because JS is the one you don’t get a choice on.
The fact that this meme makes sense to anyone demonstrates how dynamic typed programming languages cause brain damage.
Even for experts the user experience is shit. Too much has to be done manually when the default should be automatic, like fetching before pull, recursing when working with repos that use submodules, allowing mismatched casing on case insensitive filesystems, etc.
There’s an AJ video where they claimed what he describes. It’s… not convincing. In fact it retroactively destroys some of the respect I had for AJ.
https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2023/10/19/what-hit-ahli-hospital-in-gaza
It tries to use the video from the local cameras to show that the rocket was intercepted.
From the commentary “That video clearly shows how the iron dome intercepted these rockets”
But the images it shows don’t really back up their claim. We’re not really seeing any “intercepted” happening.
I watched the al Jazeera vid where they pushed that theory and it’s completely incoherent. I honestly lost a lot of respect for AJ there.
Idunno, I don’t fuss about that because I’m perfectly capable of thinking that they’re both terrorists and freedom fighters.
They’re fighting for the freedom of Gaza… but they use terrorism tactics, refuse to abide by ceasefires, and have genocidal beliefs.
Those don’t seem mutually exclusive for me.
We all contain multitudes.
But that said, somebody who goes to “freedom fighter” as their first noun for them, that’s kind of a red flag.
I’ve seen plenty of contrarian tankies who are pro Hamas. Often the same “anti imperialists” who hate the West so much they think supporting Ukraine is bad.
Personally I’m of the opinion that both sides are genocidal and anybody with a clear idea what to do there is lying, but I’ve been banned from !worldnews@lemmy.ml as “genocide denial” for agreeing with Biden that we should be suspicious of the claimed death numbers coming out of Palestine because both sides have a history of lying about violent acts in their conflict.
TIL that Justin Trudeau and Matthew Perry were classmates.

said on Wednesday the Palestinian militant group Hamas was not a terrorist organisation but a liberation group fighting to protect Palestinian lands and people.
DevOps is bad because for some reason we’ve decided to invent new programming languages that you can’t debug locally and so you have to keep pushing commits to the pipeline server. It’s bullshit.
“Why do you write all your pipelines as shell scripts and then wrap them in yaml at the very end”?
Because then I can run them locally quickly and test individual components of them instead of “edit, commit, push, wait 10 minutes, read error message, repeat”.
