  • Yes this is how sovereignty is maintained. This duality is why other members of the international community can refuse to follow ICC declarations one year and support the other years.

The United States doesn’t release that control willingly. Others would have to make them if they feel it’s that important.

Until someone can take that authority, they retain it.

  • You are out of touch. All over the world, people use cell phones. Desktop computers require stable power and space. They also aren’t cheaper than a cheap cellphone.

Even the most destitute people have cellphones these days. If the country is in good enough shape that a person could procure a computer, then cellphones are likely more available and cheaper. In fact, your cellphone is likely the source of your data connection even if you do have a laptop or some other computer in a remote area.

  • Maybe they are. You accuse me of making the scenario up, but you literally just did the same thing. You can’t possibly know they aren’t. If I were a college that wanted to show how inclusive we were, I would absolutely pick a trans athlete for a scholarship, and since there isn’t an infinite amount of money and scholarships available each year, it comes at the cost of someone else.

Since they don’t tell us who they don’t grant things to, there’s no particular person who could ever claim victimhood, but it did cost someone who wouldn’t have otherwise lost the spot. And not surprisingly, it breeds resentment towards trans athletes, which hurts the movement a whole. It’s shitty all around.

  • The issue that I think is highlighted by the article is that it presupposes that the transathlete is undergoing hormone suppression. That isn’t a prerequisite to participate in most sports, and to require it would require disclosing more detailed medical information than might be prudent.

So, while the study is small, it is also not representative of many instances of trans athleticism. A transwoman not on HRT is just as much a woman as one who’s been on it for years, according to advocates, and should be equally eligible to participate in women’s sports. If that belief isn’t held, you’ll be labeled a transphobe and bigot as well. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
