I was in M2-XFE. That whole experience certainly taught a lot about the power of narrative and propaganda. And the later blockade showed what leadership failures look like.

We always had the advantage in that blockade, and could have stayed there for another year had the allies stuck together. Or we could have executed real plans to break them and end the war. Instead we did the worst of both.

I’d recommend a post in the community encouraging people to put a url and/or QR code into some geocaches. Maybe with a sticky at the top of the community that explains what Lemmy is.

That’s kind of weird, isn’t it? What kind of screwed up family tree is required for that to happen? Your great grandparents must be in exceptional health.

I’m already telling people to get out of Florida*. I expect multiple Katrina-level events over the next 15 years. “Florida refugees” is going to become a common phrase.

Orlando might be more likely to survive than Miami or Tampa, but do you really want to be in the city surrounded by devastation?

We, as humans, seem to have lost the ability to plan more than 20 years into the future. Florida is still building in areas that are going to be crushed, and the only reaction is from insurance companies.

We’re not trying to prevent it. We’re not building any kind of defenses or contingency plans. We’re not encouraging people to move out. We’re not preventing people from moving in. In fact, we’re building new and encouraging people to move IN to Florida. It’s full on head in sand.

Is she just starting college? A relationship with someone who’s not at her school might be rough for her. I’d be forever disappointed if I didn’t have those life experiences.

Yeah, there’s really nothing wrong with a 50 year old dating a 19 year old. Age is just a number. There’s no power imbalance there or expectations. It’s perfectly healthy for the 19 year old to get into a long term relationship where their partner is going to be 70 before they’re 40.

Or, maybe, half your age + 7 is a good rule. It’s pretty lenient.

They don’t have that much power. It takes a lot (and a lack of sanity) for someone to “kill a bunch of people on their way out”.

The most they can do is something like Jan 6th with more competence. Something like that requires organization, and the FBI is pretty good at infiltrating organizations who are trying to grow enough to make a difference. January 6th wasn’t stopped primarily because it was done by the President, and the office (for better or worse) gets more leeway with laws.

It is a difficult problem, because there really are some mentally disturbed people in that population too. You can absolutely tackle the problem slowly and one case at a time lift most people out of that situation. But any solution that treats them as a group will bring along the 10% of them that will literally shit all over everything you’ve tried to build.

One of my last comments on Reddit was about this.

The biggest difference I’ve noticed is that people have stopped reading sentences. They’ll read all the words and then upvote based on the feeling those individual words give them. They won’t consider the meaning of all those words put together.

And yeah, “upvote does not mean agree” is something Reddit has always struggled with, but it has definitely had exponential growth lately.

It has made me start writing more clearly. There are comments I’ve written that have been wildly misinterpreted from my actual meaning. Part of that is that I tend towards sarcasm, and it doesn’t translate well over the internet no matter how absurd I get with it. But I’ve also started aiming to use more simple sentence structure.

New roof, solar panels, battery, EV, remodel part of the house, new siding, buy a small house in my neighborhood to function as a guest house, take care of my parents, spend a couple months in Europe.

Oh, you meant the rest of it. Government bonds are always good. You can also use more than one bank to expand the $250k limit (which applies per account type and bank). A trust, for example, is insured separately from your checking account.

Past that, I couldn’t tell you. Your financial advisor would though, just make sure they have a “fiduciary duty” to serve your interests.

Keep in mind that in these situations it’s not always their fault. Sometimes two other people have pulled in straight and they’re the third. Then the other two leave, and they just look like an ass.

Or maybe they’re just an ass. Can really go either way.

I mean, in the screenshot the posts are less than ten minutes old. Saying “completely unmoderated” is a bit harsh for that kind of timeframe.
