  • In urban areas, I’m used to house numbers starting at 1 at one end of the street, then incrementing as you go along.

Yes, this is a thing, but not always.

In my own subdivision all the residential streets start with the same letter, and the housing numbers are in the hundreds (300, 400, 500, etc.), even though the streets are short. None of them start at 1, or even 10, or even 100! … there’s no rhyme or reason, but it does cause confusion when you have several “630” house numbers all in the same area but on different streets that are slightly different.

  • An interesting thing to note is that I’m also seeing that my browser is asking whether to allow notifications from the site or not, rather than the site asking directly.

I’ll have to do more testing. Ideally, I’d like to only use Adguard, since that’s what I use across multiple devices. I’m sure I can find the filter list/settings that produce the same result as Ghostery… hopefully. LOL

  • Yes, I do agree.

However, I find that the element blocker in UBO is better than AdGuard, and it gives more control over blocking things like remote fonts. Since I run AdGuard system-wide, I just leave it on for the entire browser.

Adguard does create issues where certain sites simply will not work, so I have to disable Adguard, and I’ll leave UBO on to block any ads or trackers that get through as a result.

    It works for me. 😂👍

  • Yes, it’s absolutely horrific where we’re at. But there is an upside!

If you’re able to acknowledge its existence and protect against it, you’ve built a tremendous foundation for preserving your mental health that will last a lifetime.

One thing I’ve learned over the years is that these ad companies (and the companies who deploy their services) only have control over you if you give them permission to.

    • Block ads whenever you can.
    • Avoid apps/websites that use dark patterns. .
    • Work to improve your health (physical and mental), find meaningful tasks, be with people in real life or enjoy the outdoors alone; the less time you spend on ad territory, the less impact they will have on you.
    • Buy from ethical companies, if possible.
    • Avoid “influencers”, people who constantly promote “sponsored content”, and other strongly bias sources for your information or entertainment.
