He was (and still is to a certain extent) fairly progressive for a US politician. A look at his campaign issues page shows that he is pro LGBTQ rights, pro worker’s rights, pro gun control, pro Medicare, and so on.
It’s really his outspoken and unequivocal support for Israel that has soured a lot of people on the Left.

Sure, the acting and dialogue in Start Wars were always dodgy, but at least in ANH you had a solid retelling of The Hero’s Journey and the charm of practical effects. tPM was just a big, bloated, incoherent, CGI-ridden mess with only a couple of good actions scenes thrown in.
I think it’s a generational thing. Most/many older Star Wars fans (such as myself) who were already adults when the prequels came out hated them from the get-go.

This is a valid viewpoint, but arguing what should be the case versus what is the case has to be a measured risk in politics.
Yes, the flag can represent positive values however in the UK specifically, the fact is that there is already a strong connotation of jingoism, nationalism, and imperialism associated with waving it, for the left wing in particular.
Thefore Starmer should know that while this decision may succeed in attracting positive public attention from those in the centre/right, many on the left will have a strong, innate, negative reaction and you can’t dismiss that reaction by saying simply telling people “you shouldn’t feel that way.”

The audible difference between Tidal and Spotify is way overblown even with audiophile quality gear.
Apple Music does sometimes sound better by comparison, but that’s more to do with the fact that they tend to curate their music library with better sounding master recordings than it does with what codec/bitrate they use.
The downsides of AM is that it can be a pain if you aren’t already in Apple ecosystem, and its suggestion algorithm often isn’t as good.

I think any society that equates social worth with financial success is vulnerable to this tragic phenomenon, especially if the responsibility for failing to become “successful” is laid solely on the shoulders of the individual rather than on society itself.

Well if that isn’t a succinct summary of why many of these attacks happen. So often, they are carried out by alienated and angry young men who want to punish society for some reason.
They tend to be more dramatic in the US because citizens have access to guns, but the underlying causes are similar.
This is exactly it for me, too. Despite having significantly more users than Lemmy, Mastodon still feels much less social.
Case in point: I went looking for journalists to follow, because that’s one of the main uses I had for Twitter, but found almost none. Of the few I did find, almost no one was interacting with their posts at all. I even saw one journalist post a plea to her followers to boost, like, or just do something because she was on the point of giving up due to the lack of response she was getting. It was sad, quite honestly.
There needs to be a way to help users find content to engage with that doesn’t require an algorithm to force feed it down people’s throats.
