R. because it’s really easy to work on spreadsheets. i know there’s pandas for python but at that time RStudio made it look really attractive. i will do anything not to work on excel.

i’m all for periodic contributions through channels like open collective but bounties rarely get to the point of being persuading.

for a couple of years now my favorite foss project has been blender bim addon and its community osarch.

it has a unique aspect. the software stack it’s trying to be an alternative of includes giants like autodesk, nemetchek etc. although it’s a gigantic shoe to fill, it has been really really successful at doing what it’s doing. i have been using it for a year now and cannot fathom to go back.

the community consists of experienced construction sector people and a decent amount of them are directly involved in the software development, be it coding, bug triage, educational content, technical support etc.

i guess the thing that makes a project tick is having a working state software, the degree to which is not important, and being community oriented.

this is the easiest and most lightweight selfhosted microblogging software that i have used (apart from gnusocial). i have hosted mastodon, pleroma, gotosocial, friendica and gnusocial. it’s just php, i love it.

people are so naive, agin and again. if anyone thinks this is anything other than facebook trying to kill the alternatives, they should look at the history of gtalk/xmpp.

mastodon is a viable alternative to twitter, and this means that anyone can go: “there can be other alternatives”. like reddit/lemmy, instagram/pixelfed, youtube/peertube, twitch/owncast, etc. and this is not good for business.

and absence of industrial sabotage (in minecraft, i guess)

and as if like there will be one monarch to rule them all! all by himself, waiting by the dock, preparing for a duel.

just because we don’t officially call it monarchy, people think that it’s a whole new system. every critique you have against monarchy is valid for the billionaires and vice versa.

jeff bezos is a monarch. he has an empire with people doing literal slave-work and practically untouchable by the judicial system. if you are not willing to overthrow him now, you won’t be willing to overthrow a “literal” monarch. same goes for every billionaire.

as there are middlemen protecting the billionaires now -like mass media, military industrial complex, heavily armed local police, union busters, corrupt judicial system etc.- there will be middlemen protecting the monarch then.

you think you would be willing to overthrow the monarch because it’s not real, a fantasy. but you’re willingly turning a blind eye to the exact same thing that is real and happening right now.
