Surrounded by all of that magic and he still thought the 97 special edition cuts were better… 😑
Perpetually tired mental health counselor, sometimes retro game streamer, comedian, Mensan, coffee connoisseur, bacon lover, chronic pain survivor, nefarious pirate, and generally all-round nice dude…
Surrounded by all of that magic and he still thought the 97 special edition cuts were better… 😑
Listen here… If I went around sayin’ I was a jarl just because some damp broad in a stream tossed me a viking sword, they’d put me away!
While it’s unclear what prompted the order, Putin’s interest in former imperial possessions…
“We consider all former nations of the USSR to be former imperial possessions. We will be taking them back.”
“Mister Putin, sir… With all respect, after thorough searching and examination, we have found them to be firmly lodged within your own rectum… We also found what appears to be an antique mold of Adolf Hitler’s dick and balls behind them…”
That’s really not the case…
He condemned the whole thing 3 weeks ago as terrorism. He said it again 2 weeks ago too.
Problem is, people are so eager to jump on the “religion bad!” bandwagon that they’ll take any bait they can, even when they really don’t know what they’re talking about.
Sure, there’s plenty to hate on, but this isn’t it…
Those are lowball numbers for the catholic church!
Considering how long we’ve had nuclear power and how short a time electricity has widely been in use, 2000 years is a crazy long time. Given how quickly we’ve developed power generation technology, it’s highly likely that we adopt other technologies like solar, wind, and hopefully fusion reactors long before we run out of uranium.
Oh, I’d so love to go for a Halloween show! That’s gonna be sick! My wife and I went a few months ago for my birthday. Talked to the head of the group after and they’re doing Shock Treatment soon!
Because there’s a socially acceptable acceptable age for some things… How would you feel if a fat, bearded, 40-something man like me came to your house trick or treating, no kids in tow, just me by my lonesome?
I’m not saying don’t have fun as an adult. God knows life is mundane enough. You want to dress up for Halloween? Go ahead! I know I will be! There’s just something off putting to me about adults going door to door begging for candy. I’m just saying it’s kinda weird.
Nah man, that’s definitely weird. I stopped around 13-14. After that, my friends and I got together for parties.
She’s old enough to buy her own candy, it’s time to quit mooching and creeping out the neighbors.
I set a goal for myself to get through as many of Stephen King’s books as I can before the end of the year. To date, I’ve gone through over half of the Dark Tower series, The Shining, Dr. Sleep, It, Later, Under The Dome, Bag of Bones, Desperation, If It Bleeds, and I’m working on The Stand right now. Most of them are quite long, 15 - 50ish hours.
If you’re not into horror, I still highly recommend The Dark Tower series. The recordings for the first 5 books are over 100 hours. They unfortunately had to change narrators in the 5th book, as the original sadly passed away. He did an amazing job at bringing the characters to life.
If It Bleeds is a short story collection, but it contains a sequel to King’s The Outsider, followed by Holly, which just came out last month.
Fucking finally…
Send them holiday cards. You don’t have to put anything in them, but write a little something nice. They’ll appreciate it, and it’s a nice, mature alternative. Most people only get bills and ads in the mail. Getting a card is nice and unexpected.
Pretty much all religious texts at their core are “how to not die,” “how to make more of you,” and “how not to be an asshole,” with an overarching guilt system to enforce it.
Everything else is either people misconstruing things because they can’t make sense of their own existence, either through mental illness, misguidedness, or plain old ignorance.
Man, what a bummer. Of all the celebrity deaths I would have expected this year Jimmy was not on my list…
Game collecting
What started out as picking up C64, Atari, and Nintendo games in the 80s and 90s has turned into a collection of thousands of games totalling tens of thousands of dollars…
As a counselor, there’s very clearly some serious internalizing going on.
OP, you might want to start asking yourself questions like, “Why does it REALLY bother me so much?” No offense, seriously not attacking, but your post raises some concerning flags. Counselling may be a good recommendation, because it seems there’s more going on here than is being told.
There’s a lot of archival video that is just terrible. Digital video compression issues have damaged a lot of old footage that’s gotten shared over the years, especially YouTube’s encoders. They will just straight up murder videos to save bandwidth. There’s also a lot of stuff that just doesn’t look great when it’s being upscaled from magnetic media that’s 240x320 at best.
However, there’s also a lot of stuff that was bad to begin with and just took advantage of things like scanlines and dithering to make up for poor video quality. Take old games for example. There’s a lot of developers who took advantage of CRT TVs to create shading, smoothing, and the illusion of a higher resolution that a console just wasn’t capable of. There’s a lot of contention in the retro gaming community over whether games looked better with scanlines or if they look better now without them.
Personally, I prefer them without. I like the crisp pixelly edges, but I was also lucky enough to play most of my games on a high quality monitor instead of a TV back then. Then emulators, upscaling, and pixel smoothing became a thing…
Climate change deniers: “Now hold on just a second!!! According to your own “scientists,” the hottest the earth ever got was 3,600° during the collision event that formed the moon! Fake news!!!”
Is there a word for shuddering and vomiting at the same time?
Shuvomit?
Shuke?
Seems like there should be a German portmanteau for it…
