I hope Apple’s sources are better than Google’s sources, as there could be dangerous ramifications.

My understanding is that the “host” instance of the community is responsible in sending things out to the subscribers. As such, when users from B post on a community on C, C will broadcast the activity of user from B to instance A’s federated copy of community on C, and users on A will see the post from the user from B. They should also be able reply to each other’s comments on the community on C.

Reminds me of some place that didn’t listen to their mods and devs… 🤔
This article is from May of this year and on a quick glance didn’t seem to add any value to the current iteration of the rumour mill discussion.
I’m not convinced one way or another until more reputable sources add more colours to the situation.
Sky is tabloid and often run hot takes without confirmation, so the original should be taken with a huge grain of salt. However, considering India’s position to benefit from cheap Russian exports right now, it is going to take a lot more in depth analysis than a couple of sentences of counter claim from Indian sources to definitively proof otherwise.
Has it been more than a couple of days? I think the webfinger certificates are kept for 24 hours or something like that, so any changes in the certificate associated with your old user (used for signing updates) will take some time to expire and then update.
Civilian here. There are companies that mine, store, transport and broker uranium. These companies employe people with different skill sets from physical labor all the way up to management. An increase in price may lead to an increased level of employment by these companies, thereby increasing the number of jobs, and play a role in impacting the economy at large. It makes sense for this kind of news to be filed in the business section, even if it doesn’t directly affect most of our day to day.
If you remove that link, wouldn’t you therefore have modified the code?
Philosophy aside, I mean, who cares about an extra outbound link? Lemmy is a social link aggregator whose entire purpose is to have outbound links. That one link isn’t going to shift the needle on your instance’s SEO…
Soon afterwards a row broke out between the Surrey district police and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, who are something like India’s CBI or the US FBI.
Surrey district police => local police, think “NYPD”
Royal Canadian Mounted Police => RCMP, the federally operated police force, essentially have jurisdiction nation wide, generally the sole police force if there’s no locally established police force. Surrey Police was formed relatively recently as a former Mayor’s pet project and the current Mayor’s entire campaign is the reverse the change and get the RCMP back. 🤷
I fail to see how sharing a news article about someone (supposedly) voted into political office threatening to use nuclear weapon on another democratic sovereign nation implies “we” (whatever the heck that even mean) hate the people of the country.
5 out of my last 5 trips in different parts of Canada and USA had AirBNB costing same or higher than hotel. My parents were headed to Asia for a bit and listing there were also showing at least comparable to hotels. Why’d I not stay in a hotel, have room service, and complementary breakfast instead is beyond me.
Hopefully the new mods will continue to be on board with “News from around the world” side bar mandate as opposed to imposing their vocal minority view of “news impacting the world”. There’d be way too much negativity otherwise, and way too hard keep my sanity in check.
All good! Still lots of links to hash out on Lemmy side as well!
Person I replied to believes the cute mascot image is from Japan, the caption of the image from the article suggests otherwise.
The caption from the article:

I don’t know Android. Sorry. Doesn’t locking down to very very limited hardened features goes against everything Android is (highly flexible customizable for power users who’d want to do that kind of stuff)?
They do, and they’ve shared the counter measure (lockdown mode) with the world.
If a nation state will individually target someone, they don’t need to doom scroll on insta (nor do they need to). Locking down the phone to the bare minimum for these kind of people is the appropriate level of response.
I just straight up don’t understand and am impressed with the tech in this space we as a society have.
That awkward moment when it doesn’t support iPhone Safari…
