If you want to use a hard right lens you can interpret some Star Trek stuff in a way that aligns with your worldview.

• Starfleet is a pseudo-military organization. Rank is very very important. They’re the best of the best, and they come to save the day often with phasers blazing.
• Sure the humans are egalitarian, but each race has its own behaviors and personality types and traits: Klingons are aggressive, Ferengi are greedy, Romulans are duplicitous, Bajorans are spiritual, etc.
• (idk about this one) Men are more “important?” in older trek. Women were sexualized more. In TNG after Tasha died, the leading women were a doctor and a counselor. And they put poor Troi through so many tropes, including random pregnancy and those tight outfits.

At that point I think the value of the subscription is that you can sail the seven seas with a clearer conscience.

Protecting their reality (the prime timeline) from the Loom is the main source of urgency right? That’s why they needed to get the Protostar to the right place, to protect the present.

Which creates the chilling thought that the “future” with Solum’s civil war would be consumed by the Loom.

One thing that’s going to bug me for a while is how Solum can progress peacefully without contradicting season one

Regarding Janeway and Chakotay, they had similar moments in Voyager, too. At first she was thinking she’d get back together with her fiance Mark. Then eventually she decides that since she’s a captain on a small ship that’s isolated from the rest of the federation, she shouldn’t fraternize with the crew.

Also though, the two have a tight bond. Think about how long they’ve known each other, and what they went through together. I mean, she had her first officer infiltrate his ship after which they all got flung to the opposite side of the galaxy, and she made him the first officer. A lot of what we’re seeing use just that these two care so much about each other, not necessarily romantically.

I’d say TOS was very very light on “personal drama”, which really ramped up from TNG onwards.
