I love SIGBOVIK - truly some insane projects are presented there. Like Tom Murphy’s projects of creating a hard drive from pings, or using AI to create uppest and lowest case letters. Or reverse emulating a Nintendo (which is a particular favorite of mine).

Well, the House already passed Ukraine aid, which is one of the things that Marge’s FART squad was set up to prevent. So unless there’s another big set of legislation coming down the pipe that Democrats really want out of Johnson, I don’t see much use in them keeping him in the chair. There’s only the tiniest, atom-thick difference between him and those “Freedom Caucus” chucklefucks, so it probably won’t get worse for the Dems if another speaker election happens. One possible effect of another speaker election, however, (especially with all of the recent Republican “retirements”) is that Jeffries could squeak into the speakership role. So, very little downside, some tiny chance at upside.

So you believe that the people who don’t like what Chappelle has become in the last few years understand what jokes are, but don’t think that Chappelle is joking?

I think that speaks much more to how you define a joke. From what you said, it seems to me that you believe that a joke is completely devoid of meaning and context; that the selection of material and the way it’s told has no bearing on the beliefs of the person telling it. I think you’ll find that most people don’t share this definition.

Jokes, like every other form of communication, are a type of rhetoric. You can tell a lot about a person from the things they find funny. Dave, for instance, seems to find the idea that Trans people are crazy or lying about being trans to be hilarious (judging from his last couple of specials). Most of the people here don’t share that belief.

I’m actually really curious about this; I see people using this same line all the time: “You do understand what jokes are, right?” or something very similar.

Do you legitimately believe that the people upset with Dave Chappelle really don’t understand what jokes are? 'Cause, like, that’s really not the case. If you legitimately believe that, then I think it’s probably time for you to re-evaluate how you view reality, 'cause you’ve got some big discrepancies between it and your belief about what reality is.

“X” isn’t publicly traded. When he bought it, he took it private, so you can’t short it. The ticker symbol X is for the United States Steel Corporation. You could definitely short that, though; it’s entirely possible that it’ll tank just the same because people confuse it with Xitter. Like when that Chinese company that had the ticker symbol ZOOM shot to the moon at the start of the pandemic because people thought it was the video conferencing app (whose symbol was ZM).

Well, as dumb as this was (and it was very, very dumb), I found myself distracted by just how… weird he looked. Not just his face, which reminded me of Lady Cassandra from Dr Who (“Moisturize me, moisturize me!”), but his weird, jerky movements, and just his general vibe. He’s like the personification of the uncanny valley. Eggar-from-MiB “get me sugar water” lookin’ ass. If someone were to come out with a tell-all saying that Musk had been secretly replaced by aliens, I wouldn’t even be terribly surprised at this point.

Oof. Been there, done that, 0 stars; would not recommend.
