My indirect experience with python is that it is slow as hell. Anytime I install an app that includes python it lags 15-30 minutes on that step. Anytime I’m asked to install something with conda it takes 30 minutes to an hour.

I’m sure that is just due to environmental and implementation issues, but the Java fans say the same thing…

  • Everything goes dark. You open your eyes. You are standing on a bridge. A warm salty breeze is in the air. Birds fly over. A fish splashes in the water. You could go anywhere, do anything, a whole new world is open to you. But you stay put for now and enjoy this peaceful bridge.

A child runs by. She avoids making eye contact and runs behind you. Then another, and another. “Kids these days”, you think, “always in a hurry.” Another child approaches, before he can slip by, you turn, and make eye contact. It’s on!

You each bring out your Pokémon and oh god, oh god, oh god, it’s god. The unfathomable, immortal deity who shaped the entire world, and it is taking orders from a child! and you have… a magikarp.

Before you can even speak, a blast of energy strikes your fish, killing it instantly. You are knocked back, stunned. The child frisks your pockets and takes your wallet. Everything goes dark. You open your eyes. You are standing on a bridge. A warm salty breeze is in the air…

  • Same. We have dozens of M477s and M479s in production and few issues. Recently started deploying 4301s and so far so good. I bought an M479 on a good sale a few years ago for personal use and never had a problem. No mandatory subscription, hp account or any of that mess, and the toner lasts a long time. Not sure if it even will expire.

Many years ago we maintained a fleet of 4050s and 2200s (had to purchase parallel port add on cards to use those…) Those were rock solid for many years and very repairable, but at a certain point part availability and time lost doing repairs adds up and we had to move on.

  • Just yesterday I discovered the prices change depending on whether or not I’m logged in. Supposedly this only happens when there are multiple sellers and Amazon favors the ones that honor prime… but I could not find the lower priced seller anywhere when logged in. Now I’m wondering if prime actually increases shipping costs because vendors just raise their overall prices to cover it… very, very close to dropping prime this year.

  • Yes, until proven otherwise… call it a coping mechanism.

In 2020, Trump was blamed for exacerbating the pandemic, the economy was struggling, the Black Lives Matter movement was at its peak, etc. the stage was set for an easy win, but democrats barely won control of the senate and Biden’s victory was close enough to let Trumps election nonsense get traction.

Now going into 2024, Biden is taking the blame for everything, is in a no win situation on Israel, and is doing poorly in polls (especially concerning since lately polls have under represented trump voters.) then there are all the protest voters who imply they will vote for trump out of spite or just cause they hate Biden and the DNC…

My two big questions right now are 1) will trump be in jail (seems unlikely considering how nothing ever sticks to the man and he has a stacked court in his favor) and 2) what effect will the actual campaign season and especially political ads have on voters (a brilliant campaign could do wonders for Biden).

There is also the chance that the average American’s experiences with the economy improve next year. Inflation is down, wages are growing, unions are seeing success, the Israel situation will hopefully be done well before the election, etc.
