Polls in the US and Australia in the last decade have been absurdly inaccurate.

It’s not hyperbole, it’s fair criticism.

I genuinely believe that the minimum standard of a functioning member of society is to select a representative who will participate in setting policies for the society of which they are a part.

To claim that no one aligns with your ideology or your views is to fail in that objective. You simply select the one most closely aligned.

As a non-european I have some questions!

Firstly, is voting in the UK compulsory?

Secondly, how likely is it that the polls are wrong and the Tories will form government?

And thirdly, how have the Tories suddenly fallen from grace? They’ve presided over a real shit show for the last decade but kept getting elected. What changed?

Are you claiming to have a better understanding of trumps mode of operation than someone who was on the Jan 6 committee, studied trumps behaviour and various utterances, and had the benefit of expert opinions?

Cowardice doesn’t really work like that though.

A coward who is POTUS wouldn’t be worried about locking up opponents.

One thing that has become very clear over the last several months is that Trumps only strategy to answer the many legal and criminal cases against him is to delay until he’s president. This pretty much means that if he does become president, then he must remain so until he dies or else he will go to jail.

This means, if he becomes pres there need be no consideration for repercussions once he’s no longer pres.

He might not care about politics but I can assure you he absolutely cares about his ego, and not being humiliated in legal proceedings.

He would absolutely lock someone up just for revenge, to demonstrate his power, and to have them ask him for forgiveness.

That’s not really how major parties work though?

This is incredibly reductive but suppose there was a single spectrum between progressive and conservative. Let’s make progressive 0 and conservative 10.

Forgetting about parties for a moment, let’s say the will of the general population is 7.

If you have two major parties they will arrange themselves as 6.5 and 7.5. Both parties appear “conservative”, but really your progressive party needs to appear conservative to steal as many swing voters as possible.

If they won consecutive elections their policies would start to move back down the spectrum.

I don’t know anything about UK politics but it’s common enough in any country to say “all parties are too conservative” while in fact one of them is clearly less-so than the others.

A similar dynamic applies to most professions.

Clients just don’t understand the work involved, they have no way to estimate a reasonable cost.

I’m a very poor salesman, but sometimes it can help to ask a client what their budget is. Take web development for example. Whether it costs $100 or $100,000 depends mostly on what the client can afford, and they’ll end up with a product that fits their price.
