From what I can tell, !coolguides@lemmy.ca has a fairly rigid set of rules, with a specific distinction made between guides and infographics. That’s great, I like when moderators take an active role in curating the content of their communities.
But I would guess that !coolguides@sopuli.xyz is possibly a response to those rules. Basically if your post got removed from the lemmy.ca community because it was technically an infographic, you could post it to sopuli.xyz community instead.
That’s my understanding of the ecosystem, without having spoken to any of the people involved.
Good old Tenzing Norgay 😅. Certainly ranks among the coolest of guides.
Hmm… interesting.
You should ask lemm.ee admins to make you a moderator though. Unmoderated communities are bad praxis.
It’s definitely a good idea. I’m not sure how high it is in priority when we still need to work on basic federation mechanics, but eventually I think it makes a lot of sense.
Thank you for doing this. It’s really helpful for users like me who are intimidated by GitHub.
Dont require leading ! or @ for webfinger resolve looks particularly exciting.
What? Even if they wanted to, the devs can’t control who uses Lemmy. It’s FOSS
I’m grateful for all Lemmings, but at this particular moment, mostly you.
Even as we recognize that Lemmy is a collective effort where every user can play a part, there are some roles which are more important than others. You’ve been an excellent admin for your own users, but also a unifying force for the network as a whole, neutralizing and bridging the spaces between many other Lemmy servers.
This post is the clearest example of that to date, but your contributions have always exhibited a good sense of diplomatic tact along with strong internal values and principles.
Kudos to you @sunaurus@lemm.ee.
The ! Link doesn’t work for me, this should be the correct format
Well said. What people fail to understand is that simply telling people how they should act is futile. You need to alter the conditions that cause people to develop dysfunctional social behaviors in the first place.
Tremendous news! Looking forward to exploring all the new changes and improvements
If you look closely, the downward trend actually stopped before the change in stats. We dipped below 33,000 in mid-November, but then started hovering above 33,000 for multiple weeks until the bump.
Totally agree. Even when two commenters are replying to one another, there is always another layer where they are also addressing everyone in the thread/community/instance/fediverse, which obviously includes lurkers.
The votes shape everything about the platform, so ignoring the lurkers in the stats feels like it’s missing an important data point.
Okay, that makes more sense, I was trying to figure out what had changed in the past week. I’m very curious to see how that data would look for other servers too. I think it’s more logical to count users even if they don’t post or comment, because they are still a critical part of the whole ecosystem if they browse and vote regularly. Even without saying anything, their thoughts and opinions help shape the content and discourse through voting.
And for that matter, weekly active users and daily active users would be two other interesting datapoints. You can see the daily and weekly users on the sidebar of instances, but I don’t know of any tool/site that scrapes all of that info and displays it in an easily digestible format.
Although I had no part in this, on behalf of all Lemmings, I accept your thanks and wish you a very happy holiday.
Btw, a festivus pole still doesn’t sound like a bad idea. A festivus for the rest of us; it’s a noble pursuit
Plugging !radiolemmy@lemm.ee. Not exactly what you asked for, but a cool community project that covers a wide spectrum of musical genres.

Indeed. That way you could be more useful for the capitalist machine.
The TSA is just a federal jobs program. They don’t actually provide any value; it’s been demonstrated that they miss the vast majority of contraband. The most notable function of the TSA is the temporary imposition of an authoritarian-esque environment of suspicion and control on innocent civilians, reminding us to follow the rules, or else.
Huh, I never heard of ghost.org before. That’s a pretty cool project
