I think this really comes down to your opinion on whether math was created or discovered. Based on your statements so far I’m guessing you believe math was discovered, as there is some mathematical model completely representative of reality. Through observation we can discover mathematic principles to get closer and closer to that model, not that it would necessarily be 100% achieved. I realize that may be putting words in your mouth, but it’s the best argument I can think of to reach your perspective. Is that about right?

I think the difference here is between your conception that reality follows a mathematical model while their conception is that mathematical models follow and try to be reflective of reality.

I think their concern is that, if one believes reality follows math, when the model fails to accurately predict something, the person with the model may wonder what’s wrong with reality. If that person believed the model follows reality they would wonder what’s wrong with the model. The latter perspective will yield better results.

It’s the difference between saying “this is how it works” vs “to the best of my knowledge this is how it works.”

Shoutout to the ST: Armada 3 mod for Sins of a Solar Empire. I didn’t play the originals but the mod is really impressive.

Imagine you have a big board on your front lawn where people can come to write stuff and respond to others on the board. This board is an instance.

Your neighbor has their own board, which they have “federated” with yours. Messages from your board can show up on their board, and people there can write on those messages same as ones native to that board.

You can federate with them so their stuff shows on your board, or defederate if you don’t like the people there.

Anyone with the ability to make a board can have one federated with other boards to make a really big web of boards, but to a person looking at your lawn’s board it feels like one big one.

There is a chapter or two from a book by philosopher Derek Parfit that tackles the transporter issue pretty head-on. It draws what I feel to be a pretty compelling distinction between the continuity of your conscious mind, referred to as Relation R, and the personal identity that is lost when using the transporter. He then asks which is more important. Worth a read if this stuff interests you.

There’s a book series based on using cloning and memory storage to accomplish very similar things called Undying Mercenaries. The main difference is instead of copying someone and keeping the copy on ice they have cybernetic implants that send engrams of their mind to remote storage, and if they die a clone can be rapidly grown and those stored memories saved to it. It gets pretty schlocky as time goes on, but it’s a fun premise to play around with.

I actually think this is one of the few times I’ve seen the template used 100% correctly. The original comic had the dog wanting to play fetch, then saying “No ball” when the person tries to get the ball they need to play fetch. The dog then demands fetch again, despite having denied the person what they need to do so.

Regardless of this meme’s accuracy, I do not understand how it misuses the comic template as a user asks for a bug fix, refuses to share the details needed to complete the bug fix, then demands the bug fix once again, just as the dog does with playing fetch and the ball. Could you please explain your thinking?

I think the difference is that a card is more of a gesture than a discussion like in texts. They’re a way to show that you’ve gone out of your way to acknowledge something card-worthy. Texts are a discussion between both people.

I do think there’s more genuine expression from selecting a card that seems right than running with what an AI suggests, especially since cards are (hopefully) written by an actual person considering the occasion. That and you can always add a personal note to a store bought card as well.

Overall though, it kind of feels like an apples to oranges comparison.

No, there’s a Hidetaka Miyazaki now, the head of FromSoftware who is unrelated to Hayao Miyazaki as far as I know. It took me a while to figure that out.

I definitely had that for a while. One thing that can help is going into your settings/preferences and clearing your Spotify cache. I believe the recommendations are at least partially based on data stored there, so clearing it can start a fresher record.
