Hey 👋 I’m Lemann: mark II
I like tech, bicycles, and nature.
Otherwise known as; @lemann@lemmy.one and @lemann@lemmy.world
After one Google search on my work laptop I was looking for searx instances - a lot of those were going down too due to rate limiting 😭
I personally think some types of openly developed software projects should have a strict non-commercial license: if companies aren’t willing to contribute back to the source IMO they shouldn’t be granted permission to freeload & have volunteers fix issues their paying customers run into
Donations are possibly a bit of an exception here - there are quite a few companies that still do this, albeit growing slimmer by the day.
Another big problem IMO is the subset of users that start attacking maintainers and volunteers because their “free app stopped working” etc. I see that a lot, mostly in the arduino community, but especially egregiously on the Zabbix project - I imagine a lot of those users are companies who aren’t even paying/donating to the project
They don’t speak the same language as Lemmy and Mastodon, so can’t really federate with anyone else at the moment
Just checked the whois history on that and wow… purchased for $6000. That is a lot of money for a domain!
It was $500 prior to Reddit’s API changes, looks like another domain parking company purchased it around that time and hiked it up to $6000. Greed is one hell of a drug.
Quite curious about the current owner though, since it’s been registered privately via a proxy company.
That spoiler made me chuckle lol
Noticed that flag on several occasions but never knew what it was called - thanks for sharing!
Wishlisted, this looks like it’ll be some cheap fun for my deck. Thanks for sharing 😁
I absolutely love the clarity of this response
Before I got into my current lease I went over the whole thing, and the landlord was actually good enough to amend some things I did not like.
I would never, ever consent to having my data sold, especially by someone taking 20-50% of monthly income. They’re almost taking you for a ride at that point!
I can’t think of any scenario where I’d ever want to describe a word as a “festering abortion”, much less permanently remove one’s ability to type.
OC could probably do with a hug, getting that upset over a portmanteau seems a bit excessive to me
This is perfect, also seems like some bugs present in one of the original apps has been fixed in the Fossify version - thank you for sharing!
A direct link to the MP4 in the URL field IMO, however videos in general typically aren’t well supported by all the client apps.
The ex-reddit apps like Eternity (FOSS), and Sync (proprietary) IME are generally good at handling multimedia files like mp4, webm, webp and gifs on Lemmy
For users on other apps missing support, something like ImgurViewer from F-Droid works great - it will intercept the mp4 links and open a video player overlay (yes, even for stuff posted outside of Imgur)
That’s so annoying - I have a ton of their apps too!
Looks like I’ll be staying on these ancient F-Droid versions for a while until a replacement shows up… but ugh I am so annoyed. Files, Draw, and the gallery in particular that allowed you to resize (strips EXIF data), crop and do all sorts was so handy
Yes, this 100%. Had to bin my old Epson due to the waste ink firmware counter - despite taking the printer apart and redirecting the tank tube into a user emptyable container!
IMO Any “eco tank” inkjet printer with waste ink pads, instead of a user replaceable waste ink tank, is complete garbage
Let’s see how many of these the decronym bot knows
@Decronym@lemmy.decronym.xyz
Yes, this 100%!
I’m new to 3D printing myself, mainly got into it to make my ideas become reality - at the moment I don’t want to get too caught up in the weeds modding and customizing my printer, I just want it to work, not turn it into a project
Extremely happy that I went for a decent used printer though (Delta style Flsun), instead of buying a new cheap one and being disappointed. My next printer will probably be a compact CoreXY, Voron 0.2 is what I have my eyes on but those kits carry a price tag and take days to assemble 😳
If I was buying a printer for my partner or friends though, 100% Prusa. The extra is worth it IMO for the highly refined UX, preconfigured slicer+filament combos, actual support, and most importantly their ongoing contributions to open source.
That’s painfully expensive for just 500ml, ouch!
Edit: just noticed that looks like just over 1L, still really expensive though…
Microsoft has really messed up GitHub. Logs you out automatically if you haven’t visited in a few days, constantly asks you to verify your 2FA, and the new feed makes it extremely difficult to track engagement on your own projects.
The worst one for me is that they allow you to view your recovery keys any time - IMO this is a really bad practice, recovery keys should only be shown once after a user has set up 2FA
Probably going to move to Codeberg since I’m seeing a lot of projects making the jump over there, but the real solution IMO is a federated version control system
This kind of stuff happens all the time IMO, we’re human and not perfect 🤷♂️
I don’t know how much of a help ChatGPT would be in this situation without access to your schema, at least with Copilot you can write a comment in the code explaining what you’re trying to do and get some usable pointers in the generated suggestion (which takes your codebase into account).
I usually try to get a second pair of eyes on my code if something that seems relatively simple isn’t working as expected… As you gain more experience these mistakes will become less common, and easier to spot
