Conversions on android keeps a websocket connection open to receive messages. It’s supposed to generate very little overhead in battery consumption. The unified push app on android uses the same technique to provide other apps with pushes. So you could set conversations to be the push provider on your phone and would not need the unified push app any more. This way you would be using the same amount of battery as before.

The conversations xmpp support channel is very helpful if you have further questions: someone there will also very likely know if any apps with unified push support exist.

You could try different brands of oatmilk. It might need some getting used to, but some brands actually taste pretty close to cowmilk. I favor a brand called no milk (available at lidl at least in Germany), which has some sort of fat added I think (it`s got 3.5 percent fat like milk). You might be able to find an equivalent over in the States.

Probably more people, then you think. WhatsApp is xmpp based (just made incompatible at some point). Also the chat Nintendo uses on their gaming consoles. Xmpp is a solid mature protocol that’s very lightweight. I use it every day running my own server to chat with my wife and daughter. Calls/ videocalls work brilliantly as well. I am a big fan.

I think you could use jmp.chat for that, it’s based on the foss xmpp protocol as well, which is a plus in my book. Unfortunately the service is only available in the US and canada at the moment…
