Some context for those of you who are confused as to why this picture is impressive.

The ISS rotates around the earth every 90 minutes, so before Don Pettit brought a custom built astrophotography rig up there this picture would have been impossible to take.

It’s weird that Eric Burger neglected to put this picture into perspective for people who aren’t 100% up to date on their space news.

It’s unlikely an aquatic species can achieve technological breakthroughs needed to spread like humans can. It would be very difficult for them to build fires, smelt metal, and create the advances based off of those tools.

While they can be extremely smart and adaptable, it’s difficult to imagine how a species like that could develop machines.

Sure, there’s possible ways around it, like natural vents and geothermal power, but why would they utilize these resources without a benefit like cooking?

Glad to see sanity win out on this one. It would have created a food monopoly on a lot of areas.

Depends on the writer, but they handwave a lot of those problems by the fact that replicators need a lot of energy to work (voyager explicitly said they didn’t have the spare power and used hydroponics and trade to supplement), and a lot of critical components couldn’t be replicated (dilithium, and antimatter containment parts. Also the isolinear computer chips were non-replicatible). I think you’d also struggle with any weapons systems, which might include shields.

Essentially you could build the hull and most of the mechanical parts, but not the critical systems.

I know it’s not a popular take, but I really liked The Motion Picture. It was way more Star Trek than most of the other action based movies.

1 and 2 are probably the best Star Trek movies out there. 4 is pretty good too, but I’m not a big fan of time travel in Star Trek (some exceptions, but for the most part time travel stories are pretty weak)

There are a lot of reasons, but all of the NATO countries that were supplying Ukraine put very tight restrictions on how that equipment could be used. For example, none of the aircraft or artillery were allowed to be fired into Russia for fear of a nuclear escalation.

They’ve been slowly relaxing that restriction and it gave Ukraine more freedom to run the campaign as they see fit

It probably depends on when you were taught to code, and what language you learned on/most familiar with.

This is exactly how I learned to write psudo code in the 80’s… We were also diagramming our code back then, with a pencil and paper, using a template.

It doesn’t really matter what the process is, as long as it works for you, and doesn’t interfere with collaborating with anyone you work with.

Which isn’t too unexpected. Having it as an IV treatment would mean it’s not targeted. I don’t understand how something like that could replace individual teeth that were damaged, and not just didn’t grow because of a lack of something in the body.

If I had to guess (not being a toothologist), I’d think there would have to be some sort of injection, or implant, to trigger an individual tooth replacement.

Even best case scenario, it won’t be straight to jail.

With crimes like this, typically they are sentenced, then instructed to report to prison on a specific date. They’re usually given some time to settle affairs before going to the clink.
