When I had my circuit breaker replaced and went to 200A service a few years ago, we had to have 2 ground rods put in (maybe we reused the old one, I can’t remember) plus a wire following our copper water supply lines until just past the meter. Inspector actually made them redo that last one because it stopped just shy of the meter. Maybe there are other ways of going it, but actual honest-to-goodness grounding is also a thing here.

MBS is a piece of shit, but he also knows he can’t isolate your average person from the rest of the world, and that people will want some of the things we have. Your average person can see that the rest of the world has movie theaters, and they want that. They can see that the rest of the world has women driving, and they’ll want that too. Alcohol? At least this gives the optics, even if it’s still inaccessible to most.

Most people should learn to live below their means

I’m not saying I’ve never seen someone get something and wonder how they can afford it, it certainly happens plenty. But wages are not increasing like the prices of housing, student loans, groceries, going to the doctor, having a child, and all kinds of things an employed person should be able to take for granted. “Just live below your means” is not very realistic when the means aren’t keeping up.

I’d bet that this is in the US, where at-will employment (either party may terminate) is generally universal and indefinite.

The protections are only removed in the copy, though. Since OP was wondering if the original stays intact, it does.

When I’d search “(location) weather” on Google (e: in Chrome) and I’d get a really nice at a glance forecast right on top. Do the same thing in Firefox and I’d get a whole bunch of weather websites I could go to. The former obviously being a better, more direct experience. I found an extension that fools Google into thinking it’s Chrome and all works fine with that.

Reddit refugee here. Was karma (or its equivalent) ever built in for it to have been removed? I thought it was an active decision not to put it in in the first place. That’s a subtle but important difference IMO.

CD: the kind you buy from a store with content already on it. Mass-produced with methods and equipment not available in the consumer electronics market, because it was never really necessary. Also includes CD-ROM (Read Only Memory) for data/files read by a computer instead of music alone

CD-R (Recordable): can be written (“burned”) once and only once. As mentioned in another comment, it may deteriorate over time because of how the disc gets written, but by the time that happens you’ll probably forget you had that disc

CD-RW (ReWriteable): Can be written like a CD-R, but you can also erase it and write on it again. More expensive, and I believe some readers had trouble with it, but in a world where data storage was expensive and small this was still a useful thing to have

DVDs had a similar thing, except there were variants where the - was a +, eg DVD+R and DVD+RW. I can’t remember the difference there, but it was pretty trivial. There was also a relatively obscure DVD-RAM that had random access memory. That was pretty cool as well, kind of an alternative to DVR that wasn’t a VHS tape. No need to lose everything you had if you wanted to add more to it
