The German government said on Sunday it was reviewing its hundreds of millions of euros of aid for Palestinians following the biggest attack on Israel in years by Palestinian Islamist group Hamas.
Development Minister Svenja Schulze said the government had always been careful to check that the money was only used for peaceful ends.
“But these attacks on Israel mark a terrible fracture,” she said. “We will now review our entire engagement for the Palestinian territories.”

A “peace festival” would imply a festival themed around and with the explicit theme of promoting peace, and in this context presumably peace in the region.
It turned out to be more just a dance party on a holiday night.

Considering CNN changed their reporting to say “The outdoor Nova Festival event in a rural farmland area near the Gaza-Israel border was supposed to be an all-night dance party, celebrating the Jewish holiday of Sukkot.” Instead of the previously reported “peace festival”, I’m much more inclined to believe that.

No one is pearl clutching over dead soldiers, but when you machine gun down several hundred music festival attendees (incl. foreign nationals), rape the women, parade their naked defiled corpses around so others can spit on them, and upload the video to share with everyone, you’re going to get some international condemnation and re-evaluation of support.

When two sides fight, it’s the people who they represent that suffer. The people in power waging the wars never face any consequences for violence.
All Western governments need to evaluate “aid” to countries like Palestine. Billions are sent each year to countries like Afghanistan, and it’s immediately used to oppress, abuse, and murder women and minorities. I agree it did not work as well. On the other side, we don’t know how much worse it could have been without outside help.
