Car Talk with Martok is off this week for Thanksgiving and because I have COVID and am embracing the sweet release of death. Come back from my break and a day later get fucked. Come on.

Happy Thanksgiving to all the Americans out there. Hope your day goes great and you get much of the food. Send some Mashed Potatoes and Gravy my way. I’d kill for some right now.

Attractive is pushing it. Did you know that all mirrors are sentient? That’s my theory anyway. They keep screaming in horror everytime my reflection hits one of them.

Gay is accurate though. Very very gay.

However there are tons of other users here who post more than I do lately. They deserve all the props. @ummthatguy@startrek.website and @negativenull@lemm.ee as an example. Not to mention my brothers from another mother, @The_Picard_Maneuver@startrek.website and @xusontha@ls.buckodr.ink and my sister from another… thing that rhymes with sister, @Lydia_K@startrek.website. Plus @FlyingSquid@lemmy.world and @FauxPseudo@lemmy.world who been posting more and more. Not to mention @jawa21@lemmy.sdf.org and @Blackout@kbin.social and @Spot@startrek.website and everyone else.

I get way more praise than I rightfully deserve.

Also I’m sure I forgot people. I’m sorry. My brain is on fire :(

Just got back from my family gig and saw this. Sure hope you get to feeling better soon. It seems a rough holiday is going around this year. We lost my cousin who was doing the hosting last week and it made for a somber get together. I have other friends and extended family who are dealing with difficulties too.

I dearly hope everyone had a chance to enjoy themselves at some point and hopefully see or speak to some dear friends and family this year. The love and support of my friends/fam help me through some low times, even though I don’t have many physically close to me.

Yours, and all the others you mentioned (and forgot), help me break from the bleak realities I need to disengage from, to re-energize a bit. There are some fantastic conversations I read over, sometimes pop into if I feel I can actually add anything to the conversation. My humor is hit or miss at home but, the shit here always hits right for me and makes me feel all warm and fuzzy while i piss down my leg laughing. And, curious glances after handing my phone over to see "What’s so funny?"Sometimes those distractions are exactly what I needed to be back on track and keep on trudging on.

Thanks buddy. I’m sorry that your holiday wasn’t the joyous celebration it is supposed to be. The world really is slapping everyone around the side of the face lately and it’s not fair to anyone. You have my condolences, friend.

I’m glad that I, and others, are able to help you escape the monotony though. It is nice to have a place to come and see (mostly) everyone being silly and chilling out. You definitely help a lot with that vibe. <3 So gotta give yourself props for doing that same favor to others, man!

The place you saw that was when you accused me of it last time and when you were posting transphobic dog whistle memes. There is a reason why your hexbear account was banned for this.

Is this about people using it/its pronouns, or something else? I know a couple people who use it/its, it/she, it/whatever, so I’m really hoping you aren’t upset about people identifying that way.

No, of course not. If you want to identify using those pronouns then I’ll do my best to respect that and use them. Can’t say I might not fuck up occasionally and use the wrong one, but I make an active effort because I want everyone to feel welcome.

This person is using those pronouns to attack being trans as a whole. They were listing off a slew of comments that were attacking everyone in Starfleet for being ‘transphobic’ because no one would respect Seven of Nines wishes to be called a drone when she first was disconnected from the collective. Doesn’t matter that Seven chose her own pronouns. Doesn’t matter that Seven was literally brainwashed and mindcontrolled into having no identity anymore.

When the mods (I can’t remember who it was) pushed back on that take, this transphobe got really aggressive.

I respect people who use different pronouns with it/its. I just don’t respect that person who uses those pronouns.

Sorry if I came off as confrontational, I didn’t mean to. I believe you’re doing with good intentions, I’m just aware that some folks think that it/its is degrading or enabling transphobes.

I looked through its post history and I can’t tell if they’re being legit or trolling, though assuming it’s being legit, it seems some of its complaints have to do with xenogenders not being entirely accepted?

Xenogender is one of those things I kinda get, but also don’t. I get not identifying with humanity, but xenogenders seem like furry/therian/voidpunk/whatever with extra steps and not really the right tool, if that makes sense. Like if someone’s using them is using a screwdriver to hammer a nail because they’ve either never seen a hammer, they don’t like hammers, or there’s a social stigma around using a hammer.

In regards to Seven of Nine specifically, assuming it’s being legit (I didn’t see their original comments), it may be a case of it projecting its own wishes of being seen as a drone onto Seven of Nine.

Yeah there’s a lot of missing context and unfortunately they nuked their account so I can’t see the posting history.

You weren’t confrontational though. Don’t worry!

Please, try to have some empathy for those that are different from you. You’ve been following this person for months while they talk about their gender, and your conclusion is that it’s some joke, or dog whistle? Just accept that not everyone is going to have a common gender and move on.

No. I haven’t. They were banned from this community 3 months ago and I forgot they exist until they commented above. I would like examples of me “following this person”. I am also not a moderator nor an admin. I had no hand in their banning.

However the blatant double account here is pretty intense. You created your account 42 minutes ago just to make this comment? Sure.

Edit: Out of curiosity I asked an admin from another instance to check if they were the same person. According to that magic 8-ball, “all signs point to yes.” What a huuuuuuge surprise. Oh noooooo.

Blocked and moving on with my life.

I have trouble logging in, I’m a troll. Someone has an unusual gender, they’re a troll. I think I’m starting to get how you deal with things you don’t like online. I’m trying to ask you nicely to check yourself while you’re being transphobic. That shouldn’t make you fight, that should make you say “okay, I’ll stop being horrible.”

Believe it or not, other people care about supporting trans rights. Other people will actually make a new account (and abandon their @mechoselachia@lemmy.world) account so that they can ask you to display the barest shred of empathy for a nonbinary person.

And you will listen to someone asking you to have empathy, and you will decide to ignore them and attack them, because apparently you have no empathy to give to nonbinary people, and you don’t care.

The mission of Starfleet is to seek out new life with curiosity and enthusiasm. You found someone with a gender that you didn’t understand, and instead of approaching it with curiosity and enthusiasm, you declared that xenogenders are transphobic.

To quote Picard in The Measure of a Man: Starfleet was founded to seek out new life; well, there it sits! - Waiting.

I have never posted a transphobic thing in my life. You simply think that the existence of xenogenders is transphobic.

You mean you’re not engaging with a nonbinary person. Which is your personal definition of transphobe. You know, if I was a cis man and a trans person told me I was being transphobic, I would at least spend 10 minutes questioning if I’m wrong. I’d do that basic courtesy. But if you’re telling me you’re incapable of that, then fine. I’ll let everyone else know exactly how you feel about the prospect of admitting maybe nonbinary people are real.
