It’s exactly what I thought it would be: they don’t want to die.
They’re sending new conscripts directly to the front with no or almost no training. That’s a death sentence. No sane person would want to go there.
They are now sending older men, women and even a few --men? Young men? – with down syndrome. There are videos of this.

Downvoting because of the paywall. The (perhaps misleading) headline makes it seem like thousands of Ukrainians are fleeing Ukraine to avoid dying for Ukraine’s sovereignty, but this could just as easily be about Russians fleeing Russia to avoid a dying for the Russian elites’ agenda.
