Jordanian Minister of Government Communications Muhannad Mubaidin said Sunday that the attack targeting U.S. forces near the Syrian border did not occur inside Jordan.

Mubaidin told the state-run Al Mamlaka TV that the attack targeted the al-Tanf base in southeastern Syria.

This means that the attack is on an illegal US base in Syria, right on the border with Jordan.

It appears to be in Jordan. What am I missing here?

      https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/what-is-tower-22-site-attack-us-troops-jordan-2024-01-28/

Tehran’s denial came after the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, an umbrella group of a number of Iran-backed militias in the country, said in a statement Sunday it attacked a number of targets along the Jordan-Syria border, including Al-Rukban camp. The camp is in close proximity to the US outpost Tower 22.

Quote from posted CNN article. Al-Rukban is in Syria, Tower 22 is in Jordan.

Jordanian Minister of Government Communications seems to disagree:

I still don’t get why you posted an article about an attack on Tower 22 in Jordan and then a comment about al-Tanf in Syria saying it’s not in Jordan but ok.

What I posted are two separate accounts. The US claims the base was in Jordan and Jordan says the base was in Syria. The reason US does not want to admit the base in Syria is because US is occupying Syria in defiance of international law, and has no legal basis for its presence there. Hope that clears things up for you.
