Sure, but there is literally 0% DeSantis would live like a slave for a year. He wouldn’t do it for a week. At most he’ll spend a an hour or two posing for photos and then step into bus/trailer with a shower, AC and clean clothes before being driven home in a car that costs more than people make in a year or two.
Whole point is moot as soon as you put in a “for x days” qualifier as if you had a choice between being a slave or not. But I like that the onion article negates it by having him die while being a slave.
It wouldnt even matter if he was willing to do it for a year. Its a “common people” problem.
He would know that at any moment, he could say a word or make a call and it would stop. No slave had that ability. No slave knew their family was safe from rape or death. No slave had that certainty of safety, of health or of freedom.
His willingness to play as a slave would never be a serious situation, because it could never be anything but play.
