It’s “Chornobyl” now? Since when?
Chornobyl is the Ukrainian spelling (well, the romanization of it anyways), while Chernobyl is the Russian version. Many people and news organizations switched to the Ukrainian spelling for obvious reasons, same thing happened with Kiev -> Kyiv.
Kyiv makes sense; if that’s their spelling it’s right to honor that. But if I could throw shade at the Russians by keeping a single letter, I’d probably choose to keep it “Chernobyl”.
That’s the Ukrainian spelling, apparently. (much like Kiev -> Kyiv)
