  • Much as I love to toot Murica’s horn US’s fleet figures become less daunting when you consider the areas of interest and responsibility they cover. China has one long coast line and offshore interests, (and yes some rather optimistic claims and attempts to create islands to expand their influence) compared to US fleet having 2 major coastlines, Alaska and Hawaii, to say nothing of areas of interest and defense commitments to allies.

Under ideal circumstances US can only ever afford to have a third of it’s fleet in any single theatre, where China can theoretically put almost all of their fleet into a single theatre, granted that theatre basically needs to be the Pacific Ocean.

US still has the clear advantage the moment you step away from coastal waters but its not nearly as big as first glance.

  • To me, I never understood the desire to leave. Even the people who being talking heads for Brexit actively benefitied financially from UKs position in the EU. The choice to leave was roused up on a bunch half truths and bold face lies to scare the the general public of hatining anything south of the channel… Despite getting so much benefit.

Smartest thing they could do is beg their way back into the EU and claw back what ever benefits they had enjoyed like stated above there is no scenario where UK ends up good as they were back in 2016 let alone in a better bargaining position, but they also don’t have to throw away their future prosperity based on stubborn pride.

The concept of timezones is fine, we need a way to differentiate when days start so its a bit silly for everyone to go off of UTC or any other clock, how are you going to track the exact date, is half the world just going to go from the 8th to the 9th during their workday

What can be fixed, is making timezones uniform amd straight lines, not zigzagging abominations where its possible to drive due north and have a time change 8+ times.

  • Not really, the ground can freeze and get colder. This is why early winter, first snow and flurries will seem to melt instantly when they touched down, but as the season continues the ground cools off till snow can stay frozen on the surface.

While it’s true the deeper you go the more stable it becomes, the earth has thermal layers just like the atmosphere, and whats more the water above the ground insulates the ground from freezing faster, so the deeper the water the less it’s going to freeze from below.
