  • Might be worth remembering here that Lemmy instances, including .world are hosted by regular people. Not massive multinational companies worth billions who can engage the best legal talent around.

If Hollywood comes after a Lemmy instance, Holywood have a huge legal team and endless money. The Lemmy instance has some guy. They could quite literally destroy a persons life. With that in mind, I don’t blame any instance owners for erring on the side of taking a stance that won’t put them in the legal firing line.

  • I can’t play games :(

A few years ago I had labyrinthitis and when I got over it I found I couldn’t play games or even watch other people playing games. Something in the way the things move on screen gives me really bad nausea and vertigo, like motion sickness I guess.

TV and cinema is no problem, it’s just games.

    Yup Forever Peace.

Definitely give the ‘Children of…’ series another go.

I personally struggle with audiobooks. I’m not one of those who claim audiobooks aren’t ‘real’ books, it’s just that for me, when I read a book via print (e or standard) there’s just me and the author. When it’s an audiobook, no matter how good the narrator might be, there’s now this 3rd person in the process and they might have their own take on how a character speaks or inflects or put emphasis on things I don’t. I just find it really jarring.

  • Sad and accurate. Energy bills + cost of living + the political event that cannot be named here and suddenly a traditional meal that we all expect to always be there and always be good value is just too expensive. Two small cod + chips is £20 near me these days.

Pubs are going the same way too. I don’t mean the big soulless chains like Spoons but the smaller locals. Since COVID, 4 pubs in my town have closed, unable to compete. The ones that survived aren’t cosy locals anymore, they survived by having themed events two or three times a week. I don’t blame them but it seems the days of just nipping into the pub for a quiet pint or a chat with your neighbours are gone.
