I was really excited for the THX-1138 re-release and was shocked at how poorly it was done. There’s a scene with a CGI car that was so egregiously out of place with the rest of the film that I still remember it all these years later. I think Lucas spent too many years surrounded by sycophants.

I believe they mentioned that in their essay I linked to in this thread yesterday, they looked into starting a bounty system for new features but the Lemmy devs told them not to do it so the idea was abandoned.
From what’s in their essay it doesn’t seem like they are dictating what the devs prioritize. Regardless, I don’t see how they could dictate anything since they lack power over the devs. You keep characterizing them in negative ways, what’s that about? I feel like I’m missing something here.
Characterizing the concerns they have expressed as “whining” seems uncharitable, and “code or shut up” really doesn’t sound like a good response.

I know the devs can’t control who uses the software but apparently they want Beehaw to quit using Lemmy. It seems strange to me, especially after reading this comment, that’s why I asked.

That is not correct. Headphones encompasses a variety of methods of putting speakers next to ears. Earphones are one of many types of headphone. Or actually more than one because colloquially some people refer to a few different form factors of headphones that way. IEMs for example are often also referred to as earphones. Language is sloppy like that.
This seems backwards. Most desktop speakers are shit. If you’re into headphones at all you hopefully will have some that sound better.
Unless things change, it looks like it’s already over. Oil prices aren’t really that high right now, US production is setting records so that’s really offset the supply issues from other producers. Gas prices at the pump are about as low as they’ve been since the bottom during lockdown, at least in the US. I agree the transition away from oil is going to likely increase energy costs to some extent but the recent inflationary period is unrelated to that I think.

Is there a reason you’re limited to one or the other? There’s a bunch of different Lemmy apps out there that are great besides just those two.

I think the more energy efficient will be the second option since you’re not cooling to as low of a temperature. The fan speed change doesn’t seem likely to be a big energy difference, but not having to cool as much is likely to save significant energy.
If I’m not going to read it on the device I’m currently on I use Firefox to send it to another device so I can read it later. Otherwise I just leave it open in a tab until I get to it. I have an e-ink Android device now so I tend to send text heavy things to it, and work things tend to only get sent to Firefox on a specific dedicated device.
Yes, Hamas is immoral and does idiotic things from our perspective but it’s a mistake to believe that makes them idiots. They didn’t just stumble into attacking Israel, and they weren’t naive about how Israel would respond.
Hamas are not idiots, the response is exactly what they wanted. A whole new generation of resistance is being bombed into existence now and Israel is alienating its closest allies to do it, for Hamas that’s a victory. They expected Israel to kill a bunch of random civilians in a brutal response to their attack, it’s not a surprise for them.
