  • Yep, Minnesota had some of the best I’ve seen in the US. But it took just one person who didn’t know or didn’t care to jam things up.

Any traffic design that relies on drivers simply “knowing” the unwritten/unposted way of doing things is going to fail. There will always be a new driver, an out of towner, etc, who will react in surprising ways when faced with a new situation.

What makes Jaden’s face punchable that is separate from his and his family’s weird behaviors?

I don’t know how to separate the punchability of Musk’s face from his actions. His weird smirks, his awful attempts to get the audience on his side, his “lame midlife crisis dad trying to look cool in a leather jacket” style. It’s all annoying but he’s elevated to punchable because of his fame and his fame is due to his actions. Without his actions, he’s just like every other middle aged person trying to be younger/cooler than they are.

  • During the time after a car accident, not doing great financially, in a new place where I had no family and hadn’t built much of a support network/community yet.

I made it through and I hope you do too. SAD is very treatable, I found a combo of hot yoga and indoor rock climbing did wonders:

    • physical activity
    • heat
    • big indoor space with bright lights felt like getting time outdoors in the sun
    • social aspect if desired

  • A pure meritocracy is not possible with humans. Not everyone agrees on what “success” and “merit” look like. Whatever person or group of people doing the “choosing” will be corrupted, it’s just a question of how long it takes. And even before intentional abuse of their power, humans have their own biases that will prevent them from being perfect judges of merit and success.

And no, not a job for AI. Someone has to program the thing and teach it what “merit” and “success” mean, so same problem there.

  • Each instance of an ad has to make a fraction of a penny, right? IDK who would pay anything more than that.

Raycon did finally get me today. I’m in the market for new earbuds. I was looking at consumer reviews and wondered why the buds I hear about ALL THE TIME from YouTubers weren’t on any list I was reading. I did NOT click on a Raycon ad, but did a websearch to find their site and a pile of review sites directly.

Turns out they’re low quality compared to similarly priced alternatives. Almost like they put a substantial amount of their money into content creator endorsements. Color me shocked.
